Default 1970's Gmc motorhomes

Why do people like the things so much? I get to pull the motor out for a rebuild. 455/ th400 tornodo fwd set up. Anyone ever do this before. Looks like there's somewhat of a detachable front frame section. This ought to be fun. If you have any good links please post them.

No advice on how to get the powertrain out but I do know that it needs more armor and weaponry along with a two tone green paint job.

There is a shop up here in the thumb that specializes in restoring them. 12 months a year that is all they do and they seem to stay busy. There is quit a big demand for them I guess.

I thought you dropped the front subframe and then disconnected the engine from trans and installed as a unit.

My friend and I replaced the engine in his '79 GMC Vandura back in high school through the right front door. Yeah, not fun

I sure hope not. I'm still fingering out if I can get the front of the coach high enough to do that. Its going to be fun either way I choose

Years ago, I used to deliver auto parts for a place here in Davison. We had a R.V. repair shop for a regular customer, and they always had one or two of these things in there. I remember seeing the front ends up in the air when they had to pull the engines. Also seem to recall most of the front disassembled too. I could be wrong (its been about 18 years or so) but thats what I remember.

Because life was simpler then! You could go anywhere in parks, camp all over, didn't have to pay to see waterfalls or hot springs or have to use binoculars on pedestals to look at fancy mountain side rock carvings...

I was talking to a guy who had one at a U of M game, he did an EFI conversion, and was researching installing a Duramax.

Fun fact: GM lost money on every one sold.

They remind me of an airstream trailer. Those things bring the coin.
