Default What is this worth?

SAS 96 Chevy NV4500 D60/14B H1 Beadlocks 42" TSLs ($4200) - Great Lakes 4x4. The largest offroad forum in the Midwest

It seems to me that this should of sold by now but to be honest I have not even had any low ball offers or interest from others on this truck. I take that back I did have a few high schoolers wanting to buy it with there graduation money but nothing serious. I will just keep it if I can't get around 4 for it but I want to start something new. Any advice?

seems like a very fair price, I saw it up a while ago and i'm surprised it hasn't sold yet. It would help if you did the two seals that it needs so that it would be a turn key rig. Even without it fixed though it's a good price. Have you posted it on any other sites? Craigslist forces you to deal with shitty buyers and tons of tire kickers but it would probably sell.

I would agree with everything stated here. Maybe clean it up real good and take detailed pictures proving that it is clean? Especially for CL if you think of going that route.

My favorite statement as a seller on there is "what is the reason you are offering me xxx price vs the asking price"
They never state any reason, and most come right up to the asking price.

I don't think it's a bad price. But since you are asking for input, here are a couple things that make a person unsure.

The biggest cam I could put in it.............. better specs on an engine rebuild help. What is the lift & duration?
Some people have no issue with a welded dif, others do.
The rear axle leaks
The transfer case leaks
The passenger window doesn't work
The CB doesn't work.

With all that, a person realizes they are buying a project vehicle. The upside is kudos to you for being honest about it.

Back to your original question, yes, I think the price is fair. I'm just trying to help give insight to why no one has jumped on it. Don't worry, it will sell.

to go a step farther with this, 2 years ago I was selling a clean 97 TJ, no rust but it wasn't polished...
I was asking $5000 or best, had 5 people look at it, no buyers.
I spend a day detailing it, good wash, polish it up, wax, extra things like cleaning up the frame with a black can of spray paint, not covering anything bad, just making it look cleaner, put it back out for $6000 and sold to the first person who looked at it, the first night it was out, for $5800.

Most people just don't want to lift a finger, they want the vehicle to be ready to go as soon as they buy it.

Your target audience doesn't have $4200 to spend on a toy?

I have to say though a big x2 to what both Jim and John said.

People don't like issues. Honesty is good. But my thought would be, "If this guy isn't going to take the time to get the diff sealed what else has he not taken care of." Granted there are some things that will always be an issue and are to be expected on a trail rig.

People don't like the only pictures of the vehicle being that of it being beat on. It's kinda like a stripper. We all know their purpose in life. But she isn't going to get the pass by Mom if the only pictures you have of her are her swinging on a pole.

^ I think you hit the nail on the head there.

Obviously the truck is a wheeling rig, but nobody wants to see it actually wheeling before they buy it. Take some better poser shots; nice ones sitting in a driveway all cleaned up, and take a couple hours to fix some of the minor things wrong such as the leaks

An't that the truth!

Anyways I also agree that everyone else here is spot on. Your price is right but people want a "ready to go" rig over a "project" rig. Spend a few days fixing everything up and if no one still doesn't buy it at least your rig is all fixed up ready for you to use.

Oh and get ahold of me sometime, we should do some wheeling, its been years. Also wish I had cash, ive been looking at this for months.

to me the issue is this:

its too far gone to be a reliable street driver but not really built enough to be a hardcore trailrig.

Its a full size truck on 42's....to wheel it hard it needs better front shafts, some sort of hydro for the steering, better knuckles, and on and on and on....with the amount of money that ads up to you might as well start with a stock truck that hasn't been pre beat

my :2cents:

The guys have pretty much nailed it. Its a niche vehicle. Any time you take something and make it into a trail beater, its market/# of potential buyers gets really narrow.

The more custom/one of a kind stuff you do, to the next buyer, thats more 'what the f*ck is this?' moments. You see how slowly and/or cheaply homebuilt buggies sell for, same thing.

With yours, I think its one step further, that most of the time that people go in that direction with a vehicle, they want something smaller, like a Toyota or S10, or chopped up XJ. Not many people want to trail ride full size Xcabs. Doesn't mean the value isn't correct, just the market is again, small.

I've been trying to sell a decent XJ with some cosmetic damage, can't sell it for nothing. About to switch to parting-out mode.
