First big boy job at Chrysler was 9 months and I hated what I was doing. So I took a better paying, full filling and all around intensive job where I learned a lot! The first opportunity I could. The company was a somewhat large company supplying to a lot of European auto makers and here in the US 80% to GM and 20% to Chrysler. Before I got there they had a somewhat rocky relationship with GM due to past problems.

When GM didn't source them to supply parts for future programs and they only had a small list of current programs to maintain and to supply for that was quickly running out, it's logical for a company to reduce work staff, shit luck for me I was last hired so first fired. Of 6 employees that worked intensity on GM only 2 remain there right now, managers and system engineers jumped ship too. It's business pure and simple and in the end it worked out perfectly for me.

Doesn't matter if I'm contract, direct or union my ass can be let go at anytime and I completely understand and realize that. Read above

Call it luck, being confident and backing it up or right place/right time but in 2 years on my own I've increased my salary by 20k and that's with a useless degree as some would believe. With GM you have to have a "set of particular skills" and be able to navigate & work many internal systems. Ya anyone can be taught my job but the company I work for now needed someone experienced and knew what they were doing with little assistance ASAP! At that point I was able to get exactly what I wanted :)Confident, you bet your ass I'm confident when it comes to my job but I'm also willing to ask for help and say I don't know something when I need help. That gets you farther then struggling and failing. The guy I replaced couldn't do that or handle the fast pace of the job. I do walk that fine line but so far I've done it very well.

Stay in the high risk high reward. You're young, and it's not like you have a mortgage to worry about.

Oddly enough I have almost no personal effects at my desk. At my old desk I had 2 pictures of my jeep when it was together, a water bottle some toothpicks and a jacket. That was it besides my work equipment.

I hate a messy desk

Ambalamps per request
