Default Blow off valve bad?

Can a blow off valve go bad? When I'm in the highway at lower rpm an I give it gas to get up a hill or gain speed I can hear air leaking from under the hood. I maintain boost but something's not right.
And when it gets real bad it will flutter when it leaks.
It's a 2000 7.3

Do the rubber boots for your turbo have holes in them? Not uncommon.

No they're new.
It's defiantly coming from the blow off valve when it shifts and I'm on the gas I hear it blow off real loud than stays pretty constant but only about 1/3 of the loudness of the actual blow off

Yes, they can go bad.

But...unless you installed one on your truck you don't have one. Diesels don't have a throttle plate, therefore they don't have them. Only on built diesel motors will they become somewhat of a necessity.

You probably have a boost leak (obviously) somewhere. Check all lines, plumbing, etc. If you can fab a 2L bottle over the air intake and seal it with duct tape and then seal an air hose onto that you can make a booty fab boost leak checker. You probably only need 10-15 PSI to check for leaks.

It may have one, but it's just their for looks.

You can have a leak on a turbo and not loose boost. With the size of the turbo you have, it can easily make up for a small audible leak due to the CFM it can flow.

you have a back pressure valve, it is not an external blow off

Does a back pressure valve relieve pressure in to open air under the good?

You in fact have a wastegate that is what you are hearing. Every 7.3 I have ever owned or been in do it to some degree some more some less. The hypothesis being the internal spring becomes weak with age and heat cycles. Mine has done it seemingly forever and I still make great boost.
Do not worry about it it will hurt nothing.
If it is a concern I am in Hartland bring it over and we will look at it.

I have an intake that runs off my cowl hood. But that's not the problem. This has got progressively worse over the last 2 years.
I just re geared my truck and that made it do it worse. I'm assuming because the RPMs are higher?

pics of what you are talking about (blow off valve?) might help. Sounds like an intercooler boot leak to me.

Your truck does not have a blow off valve...repeat it does not have a blow off valve. They are not an easy add on to a diesel, and they were not there from the factory. Instead of posting a picture of whatever part you were looking at so people can call you dumb, you posted some bullshit video that shows nothing
