I am really glad I decided not to go to Kettering! I hear horror stories all of the time!

I dont think I would ever want to go to class because I wouldnt be able to have my gun on me!

Honestly while I was there I heard of far less incidents than I did in the couple months I took classes at Wayne State.

The police presence around campus was pretty good and all you ever had was petty things and some cars being broken into.

Granted that was almost 10 years ago now though and back then Flint actually still had a police force.

I work with a lot of Kettering interns and I know a few of them have been jumped and robbed of their laptops and all of their books ON campus!

I dont want to have to deal with that everyday.

I have worked with many engineers that didn't go to Kettering, it's a risk/reward situation

I think any time you have a university in a very urban area that is filled with young, naive, idealistic children you will have great opportunity for crime.

Like I said it seemed like every other day I would see the emails from the WSU security alerts about someone being mugged, someone's car being stolen, someone being raped, etc...

After a few weeks of having to walk waaaaaay out to my car at 10:00 at night along half lit sidewalks, alone, I decided I was going to take the necessary measures to ensure my safety...

It seems like the only people that think Kettering is worth the 6x the money, are people that went there. I will get the same jobs as the other interns I work with and save myself over 100,000. To each their own

It's cool, most non-degreed engineers don't see the need for one either. Work with enough people over time and you'll understand. There's nothing that says you won't be as good or better than those from Kettering, but by percentage, you'd be the exception. I think it's overpriced as hell, bit I think all colleges are. It was double when I went but I've already made up the difference with my difference in starting wage due to experience. You're probably good at math so I don't have to explain how percentage s of bigger numbers lead to even bigger ones over a lifetime To each their own though.

I have to agree with the kettering grads.....There's a reason I don't place very many kettering grads....they already have jobs.

Now that I am thinking about it more it really depends on what you want with your job. Some people want to get their masters and have a huge position with a huge company and making 250k+ a year, maybe those people are better off going to Kettering. But I do not want a position like that, I am fine with making less money for a smaller company with a job I love so I decided that the huge investment in Kettering wasnt the best option for me. They gave me a large scholarship offer but I didnt see the value in the price especially when I graduate I will have double the experience in my internship than any Kettering grad because I work all year round.

When I started at my company a year ago, there were a lot more Kettering kids than non-Kettering, now we have hired a ton of people from OU's engineering department because it is easier to just have one full time position than two people trying to do the same job every 3 months.

I am not worried about employment after college and I think I made the right choice for myself, I was realllllyyyy close to going to Kettering too!
