These poor underrepresented people just need more help.
1) Ban guns
2) Raise taxes on wealthy
3) Increase social programs

Good as new!

Chances of becoming a victim of a violent crime in the that detroit neighborhood (in one year): 1 in 7

That's racist. That's just rich, white propaganda talking down Detroit.

Jesus, it's beyond time to just bulldoze that shit hole along with anyone not quick enough to get out of the way.

The area they have highlighted in flint isn't nearly as bad as other areas based on the "eye test".

I dunno, based on what I remember from school that was a very nasty area and spoken of as one of the worst areas in Flint.

I think though that whole area is really bad and what they highlighted is just the core.

But in a city filled with gutted and ransacked buildings, the library has for the most part stayed intact. Perhaps even the looters have a respect for the services once provided there.
Or they just have no idea what a book is for.

Really? I always thought flint was far worse on Saginaw north of the river and neighborhoods to the west of saginaw, between saginaw, dupont, and pierson.

Then the state streets area over near Dort and Davison....

It's really hard to say I suppose. It's been years since I even drove through that area.

Anything north of downtown between 475 and like Clio Rd. is REALLY sketchy. It seems as though hearing of a body fished out of Devils Lake was a common occurrence.

We used to go watch the people drag race on James P. Cole Blvd. on the weekends. Usually the cops would roll through and break it up. Saw quite a few fights, heard gun shots a few times, but that's not the point of my story. One night we heard a ton of sirens, but never saw any police. Besides they liked to try and sneak up. I figured I'd go find out where they went. We headed up Saginaw and they had the road blocked off so I tried a few side roads to see if I could get closer. Somehow we came out right in the middle of their blocked off area and out in front of one of the clubs in the middle of the street a couple guys were laying face down... and no one was in a hurry to attend to them. That was the last time I went exploring in Flint.

I assume you went to Kettering? I was all set to go there then figured I should check out Michigan Tech too. I'm sooooo glad I chose Houghton over Flint.

Yup.

You made a good choice. :)

I work with a couple guys that went to Tech. That winter carnival with the snow sculptures sounds pretty cool.

Oh the days of exploring.

They pulled bodies out of the river a couple times while I was at Kettering. Gun shots, and people/house being robbed was the norm the last couple years I was the there. From what I remember Dupont/Pasadena and north were really bad.

I was coming back from Burton area to campus one time and noticed someone running down the river bank to someone standing next to something by the water. Then the police and ambulance came screaming by. I saw later on the news that it was a girl who was missing. Her ex abducted her, raped her, then beat her to death. The woman running down the bank was her mother...

Pretty fucked up that the only times I've ever saw people dead from violent acts was in Flint.

I had to go to a power plant in n/e flint a week and a half ago, had to take a detour because there was a shooting and the cops had everything shutdown. Leaving the plant, the workers told me a fast way to get back on the hwy followed by "don't make any complete stops."

There are far worse neighborhoods in Flint than that one they name. I worked in that neighborhood for 6 years, and often was down there at 3-4 am to open the office up. Though we had a lot of thefts, and dumping in the area, we also had Johns beating hookers in the neighboring parking lot.

In the 6 years I was there (the named area) the Taco Bell manager got shot, and a John and his hooker got whacked on Lapeer Rd.

Robert T, Dayton Ave, Dupont, Clio Rd, Pierson Rd, or any of the "state named" streets are much worse areas.

I had to do service calls in a lot of those areas sometimes when I worked at the Pierson Rd Home Depot, that got sketchy - i was the main reason I kept my '87 caprice around. I would take that on a call rather than my lifted Wrangler - it actually made a huge difference in how I was treated down there.

I would give you respect in this.

I love how they justify Chicago's crime rates because of the high number and availability of guns. God i love Democrats.
