Home audio question..

I am looking for a new audio input set up. My goal is to have an auxiliary input mounted in the wall with an "on/off" switch and that's all. What would I need? It needs to run four speakers.

Mount a reciever or amp in the wall and then drywall over everything except the input jack and on/off switch.

Or

Hire someone that knows what they are doing.

Really it seems like a super simple project. I just wired in a full 5.1 surround sound system into my house down here in Alabama. Wasn't hard at all. I ran a/v wallplates up above the fireplace and then down the wall to the corner and speaker wires from that corner to the ceiling and covered it with crown moldng. Didn't take much and it was a fun project. You can get everything you'll need from www.monoprice.com

I did something like that for my deck. I got a basic small amp, sealed it in a rubbermaid tub and hid it inside my BBQ cabinet. I ran a line in jack (3.5mm headphone) into it. I have just a 3.5mm wire, and switch inside a waterproof box.

So anytime you are on the deck, you can plug in your phone and have instant music, and just use the volume on the phone to control things.

Between bluetooth and appleTV type devices... do people still really use "AUX" jacks? Just seems easier to do it completely wireless.

You can use an IR receiver/emitter to hide everything in a closet and still control everything pretty easily. It becomes much easier if you have a TV outside fo the "closet" to do display duty, so you can see what you're doing.
