Engine swap that won't run... need ideas

So I have a 02 jeep wrangler. The PO had put in a 99 4 liter and I blew that one up so I installed a 2006 4 liter that I was told is new and has only 50 miles on it and after internal inspection I have no reason to doubt it. This new motor came complete with all the 06 sensors in it along with all sheet metal and everything it was even sitting on a chrysler crate. So the motor has not been run in about 5 years and I have swapped out all the sensors from the old motor to the new one and all the plugs are connected along with a new clutch and flywheel. Now when I try to start it, it just back fires and acts like its way out of time.... this ran fine last week on the old motor. I pulled the crank sensor to inspect and it seems fine. I plan on buying a new one tomorrow to try it but I'm pretty sure its something else.

Anyone have any ideas. Help would be appreciated.

Do you have a plug wire flipped somewhere possibly? PCM not liking the new motor? sometimes they run like crap for a couple warm up cycles

Their are not any plug wires on these years. It won't even run a little.

Check for fuel pressure? Check for spark?

I would venture in to the PCM not being compatible with the new engine.

OK its not the battery lol. 99% sure its not the pcm as all the sensors have been swapped over. The 2 motors are now identical. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the CPS or flywheel or cam sensor. Does anyone have any experience in this area. I have checked and rechecked the obvious. I just don't want to start swapping parts on something I drove less than a week ago.

I would verify that the number of cam and crank teeth between the years is the same.

Did you reuse your flywheel or the new one? sounds like a cam/crank sync. issue but looking at Chry. repair info it should be the same.

Best way to check would be a 2 chan. lab scope to look at them.

Maybe inspect the windows in the flywheel for the crankshaft position sensor, make sure they are not damaged. B

No running a 2002 computer with a new flywheel bought for a 2002. With a 2006 motor.

The key? Oh Shit. That did it. Thanks kinzie. The rest of you guys are morons. :banghead:

You have a scanner you can hook up to see if its readn the sensors? Some will tell you crank position and cam position
