96 250 4x4 conversion

Since I got my obs powerstroke running again I decided to keep it, build a flat bed, and use it as a work truck. I would like to have another plow truck next winter so 4x4 is a must. I wouldn't mind doing a stick conversion either.

My ideal truck would be a D60, zf5 or zf6, and a manual t-case

I haven't done a ton of looking into this yet as it's a pretty new idea. So I'm looking for advice.

What I need to figure out
-are the frames different between the 2wd and 4wd obs trucks or will the leaf shackles bolt in
-what t-cases will bolt up to the zf5 and zf6 or should I just run a divorced case... I'm thinking that will make finding a transmission easier or allow me to keep the eod4
-I'm thinking my budget will be $1000ish. is this overly optimistic?

I did this to my 94 dually. Its quite a bit of work. The frame is the same, you just have to cut out all the 2wd brackets and replace them with 4wd brackets. I had the whole front half of the doner truck when i did it. Thats the best way to go so your sure you have all the parts and measurements.

Good luck finding a zf6 for $1000. Most good condition used I have seen go for around $1500. Freshly rebuilt units go for $2000-$3500, plus a core charge.

I have seen quite a few under $1000 on CL and eGay. It's like anything else deals are out there if you are patient. I decided the only way this project would be worth it is if I had a pristine lower mile obs powerchoke. It's still a hell of a tow rig and not bad looking but not worth the trouble for me.

Anyone looking for a good tow rig
