Hauled some steel home with me last week

Didn't get nearly as much done this weekend as I wanted to. I did get my Swag Off road press brake all welded up. (no pics of that since it's in a dark corner of the garage) Got some parts stripped off the parts jeep too.

And since I promised pics of bent metal

Just some scrap 3/16 that I bent up in the new brake. That thing works awesome and is well worth the money if you are considering one. Bent the 3/16 like it wasn't even there and went together easily. Even for an amateur welder like myself.

Nope, Midland Steel. I figure I'm saving money buying there instead of buying fuel to go to Pontiac. Everything I need is in stock too.

Question

I don't know what the price difference is to Pontiac steel, $377 for what I got. 48' 2x4 1/8" tube, 48' 16 Ga. 3/4x3/4, 40' 1/8"x4" flat bar, and 2 4x8 sheets of 18 Ga. Cold rolled.

Let me know if you need anything and I can pick it up and have it at the house. If you go yourself, take cash, they don't take credit cards.

A local boat shop has two mercruiser 470's (he has them listed as 180's, but from what I can tell they are 180 hp versions of the 470) for $800 each. I'm currently trying to decide of I want to go this route instead of the 3.8 ford. How would one go about repurposing one of these engines for automotive use? I know the exhaust manifold would need to be modified/replaced. If I want to run a manual would I use a bbf flywheel?

Is this a bad idea?::

Mainly for simplicity. It would be way easier to wire and plumb. Plus it uses more common parts than the sc 3.8.

After doing some research I don't think the 470 is the answer either. I don't know why I'm second guessing myself, I was just out in the garage looking at all the shit on the 3.8 and it just scares me.

I am now the proud owner of the 4060th Jeep ever built!

It is a total piece of chit. (I knew this going in.)

It is a 41 MB slat grill, script tub (tub is a relative term). I picked it up from Route55 (thanks again Keith). So without further adieu, on to the pics...

Obviously it isn't restorable... I'll be using the fenders, grill (it's not an original, it was made by a g503 member who has passed on), windshield frame and some of the other trinkets that are left. The plan (thought up over a few beers since I got it home a few hours ago) remains similar to the CJ. I'm going to attempt to fabricate the entire passenger side of the tub, but I will be purchasing the drivers side panels in order to keep shovel and axe indents. I'm going to remake the rear panel incorporating the original Willys script. First off is sanding down the hood to see if I can find the original military numbers to find out where it served.

Now that it's finally warming up outside and I have a clear direction updates should start coming a little faster.

Oh no! Sacreligious! That should be restored to original specs! And Japanese parts in that WWII American Hero! Patton himself is going to crawl from his grave and pistol whip you with a 1911.

Just Kidding, very sweet! And I'll be watching for sure!

Thanks Keith, I'm sure I'll catch a lot of shit for the axle choice. Hopefully by the time it's done people won't know quite what they are looking at!

Ummmm, I looked at it today. I'm going to pick up axles from 974x4taco on Thursday, fully built toys with hydro assist, 5.29's, and longs. Before I leave I'm going to start on the back panel (it'll be the easiest) and hopefully have it finished up before I go to work on Saturday night.
