Default Is there a 'leader' that can realistically fix the mess?

Was going to post this in the 'Obama sucks' thread, but it's a bit of a tangent...

Who really thinks that there is 'one person' who can fix all (or at least the most important) problems in this country?

Lots of people felt Schneider was going to turn Michigan around, and some of his supporters have turned away from him since he's been in office. That's just one state!

So, come on GL4x4 political geniuses, what would have to happen for this country to return to strength and prosperity?

I think our best days as a Nation are behind us.
We will not see the good ol days anymore.
There is too much of a entitlement attitude which will keep us from being who we once were.
The answer to your question......I do not see anybody in our future that can dig us out of what we are in. This has been going on for the past 25 years of kicking the can down the road. My thinking is the can is on it's way down the hill.

It's a vague question.

As a whole, no, you are never going to please everyone all the time. People have widely varying opinions about political issues, therefore any one solution is going to have a mix of proponents and opponents.

Even on a personal level, I'm usually left voting for people I do not entirely agree with.

The short answer is no, one person can not fix whatever might be wrong with this country. But I say that not because I think our problems are so horrible, nor because our leaders are not capable, but because our system is set up such that one single person can not have that much impact. It was do that way on purpose, to try to avoid powerful dictators from trying to run the country themselves.

It's attitudes that need to change, not people.

Very true.

But can attitudes be changed? With our days of political correctness and we can't say anything that might hurt someone's feelings and the need to give to those that don't deserve it, I don't think we can change the attitudes back.

Go back 50 years and you would be hard pressed to find an American that thinks an illegal alien deserves free education or social security.

The question is purposely vague, because the problems themselves are vague.

There is a general feeling of hopelessness invades many of the political threads here lately, and I'm thinking it goes beyond a lack of faith in the current elected officials.

Attitude do change over the years. 1920's where pretty conservative, 1930's with the depression things got more liberal, 1950's McCarthyism was back to conservative, Late 1960's free love era was liberal.

It goes back and forth.

It's weird how someone who speaks common sense gets labeled a 'wacko'.

Though the blue and red agenda machine is still probably to big to break down.
