.060 over bore a bad idea?

Chevy 350

Bored .040 now and was getting a bit of blowby, rings and bearings are bad. bad rings caused the groves in the piston to get a lil slopppy as well, so i need new pistons also

4 Bolt main
stock crank
erson rv15h cam Link
Stock heads

Engine is at Rays precision engine in taylor.

They are going to try and hone it out because its not bad, but reccomend boring it out more.

I hear what can happen. but has anyone here actually ran a .060 over and had good or bad experience with it?

Its going back into daily driver jeep 40 miles freeway a day for work. and ocassional offroader, and other fun!!!

Have it sonic tested. Only way to find out for sure.
That being said I had .060 sbc 350 4 bolt with around 30k before I sold it. Never had an issue, did not baby the motor either. I ran the snot out if it.

Ok how much does a sonic test usually run?

And I should probably add that the block is a 4 bolt main.

The 350 in my S-10 is 60 over and i still have sufficient cylinder wall thickness. i wouldn't worry about it.

you will be fine there is lots 350 bored .60 over out there. look at these way its .40 over now and you are going .60 over its .20 over more than it is now. divide that by 2= .10 a side, go look at .10 feeler gauge or even .20 feeler gauge.

I've been running .080 for a few years now as a weekend beater in my YJ. No trouble so far.

The thinner the cylinder walls are will make a engine actually lose power due to the cylinder walls flexing. When the flex your rings dont seal as good. Then when you make more power its going to flex more yet. Cylinder walls will only flex so many times so much, then then blow out. All depends on what your doing with it, how much you have into the bottom end, and if you really need the extra bore size. Is not worrying about your bottom end worth the price of just changing the block? I love motors, can ya tell? haha

As mopar says 60 works and is usually fine but if you want truly reliable and build able find a new block. It's a 350 probably find a dozen on Craigslist that haven't been bored in about 5 min

.20 is only .050 away from a quarter of an inch.
.125 is an 8th of an inch.
