Default Fleming's Prime Steakhouse

Anybody ever go to one?

I'm usually too cheap to go to an upscale My wife and I were given a $100 gift card for them and are headed to the Birmingham one tonight. I cannot use it on beer or booze so I guess I actually need to get a steak. What's good at this place?

my boss treated us to the Birmingham one about a year ago. I got the petite filet with the shrimp.

the side dishes are sorta meant for 2-3 people so as a group we got a side of their amazingly good jalapeno scalloped potatoes and some semi-forgettable vegetables.

about 15 minutes into the meal, the wait staff will come back and ask if you are inclined to think about wanting desert, and if so that if you choose their amazing lava chocolate cake to order it, as it's only made fresh, and it takes about 1/2 hour to make.

they have a pretty wide alcohol selection as well, even though you stated you couldn't do it on booze.

another option if you can use up the gift card in increments, is if you sit at the bar you can get a pretty damned fine burger for something like $7.95 these days what with the "rough economy" during certain days/hours.

we haven't been to the one in venice florida yet, but with the inlaw's having a winter home down there I imagine we will eventually.

Thanks for the tips, especially about the size of the sides. One of the reasons I usually avoid these types of places is the a la carte style menus and how small the sides often are.

That's also interesting to know about the bar there - I just looked at their site and it looks like they have an entirely separate, less expensive, menu for the bar. Even if we don't do that tonight I may have to go back another time as I do enjoy a good burger.

If you get down early enough Big Rock has some really great house brewed beer for for cheap during happy hour 4-7pm at the bar. I don't have anything to add about flemmings though

the filet was easily cut with a dull butter knife, decent flavor and it melted. the shrimp was outstanding, as were the aforementioned potatoes (one of their specialties)

the vegetables were somewhat forgettable, and so too was the appetizer now that I think about it - but we had drinks at the boss' house first, and she makes them pretty stiff. in fact my wife who normally doesn't drink at all felt a bit woozy after just one cosmo made by my boss so that early burning sensation on the palate and stomach may have influenced my memory of the veggies and the appetizer (or was there two appetizers? )

regardless I did not feel like I was hungry still after eating, despite it being only the petite filet.

the tip on the bar/burgers is courtesy of my boss - she lives in Birmingham and is frequently there during "happy hour" on Friday's just for that more affordable burger entree menu

I live right near there (Bloomfield Village area) but very rarely do I ever go to any of the bars or restaurants in town, even though I could get hammered and walk home. I'm just too cheap. So it's nice to know that they have that option at the bar there.

trust me, I'm more like ruprecht the monkey boy ordering fried spam with bbq flavored pork rinds. my wife comes from money, I'm a hillbilly that likes nice cars, and while I can appreciate good flavors am just as inclined to pig out on mediocre food

in fact, one of my younger brothers had his small wedding+reception at the Lark in West Bloomfield.

we had the waitstaff simultaneously mortified and amused as we were like: "zomg you have to try this" eating off of each other's plates and making a fuss.

one of my other brothers even put the two halves of his lobster thermodore back together and did the charlie chaplin action figure dance thing with it :D

I have been to Flemmings 5 or 6 times. I always get the rib eye medium rare and the side of mac and cheese. If any nice steak house offers mac and cheese it is usually good. The past couple times I went the lava cake wasn't that good. Good steaks though.

He's still there washing dishes to pay the bar tab.

I had the peppercorn steak with the Fleming's potatoes and the green beans. Everything was very good. My wife had the filet mignon which I ate about a quarter of as well and really liked, and I don't normally care for filet mignon. I also had to get the chocolate lava cake. I'd say it was the highlight - most places that serve something like that make it too heavy and too rich but theirs was surprisingly light.

We had no problem blowing right through that $100 gift card.

I'll definitely be going back even without a gift card, but probably to sit at the bar to try the burger.
