Default Garage wiring question

Just bought a IR 80 gallon 5 horse compressor. Hooked it up and blew the fuse in my garage. Found online that it should not pull more than 30amps. I have 60 amp service ran to the garage.... but its kinda getto. There is a 60 amp 2 pole breaker in the house, line runs down to the garage (looks like maybe a 4 or 6 gauge wire) into a old school glass fuse fuse panel. Only has 2 30amp fuses the lights are hooked up to one side, the outlets are hooked up to the other. I used the 240Volt plug that was already there for my compressor, which is also run off the 2 glass fuses. Does this sound like a fire hazard. Should this be enough power?

Thanks for the help
