Don't sell yourself short on the converter either. Get something custom built for your application. Yes, it's more money than an off the shelf converter, but you're leaving a lot on the table if you don't.
Get some good M/T ET Streets, and with a decent suspension, you'll have no problems getting it to go forward even with just 2WD.

I run a 4.10 in my car, and my engine builder says the new 489 would prefer a 3.73. I say 4.10 just for the fact this is a driver, and sooner or later one of your buddies is gonna try to pass you...

Who do you like for converters? I figured I would be talking to someone about it, since my application is a little odd, compared to the typical Camaro or whatever...

Dad and I have used Coan for several converters. Always had very good luck with them. Plus they're close!

I had some thoughts about making it 2wd, with a beam front axle, and going with a gasser look. But I think it won't get up and go, on the street, like the AWD will.

With nothing but a custom set of leafs and some M/T ET Streets, I can make mine hook as hard as I want in 2WD.
