Default Won't Start, Everthing Works Though

I did a search but didn't find a similar situation. I wanted to double check before I went out and bought a starter.

Jeep's been running fine, went to start it and all I got out of it was one "click". Lights, wipers, radio, gauges, everything works but it just won't start. The starter has been filled with mud and cleaned before but I'm thinking its just probably time for a new one.

So I'm thinking it needs a new starter but wanted to get some opinions first.

Thanks

hit/tap it with a hammer in if that works then you know it's the starter.

Same prob on our 2000 xj, battery wire to starter was bad. Put a jumper cable from battery to the starter and try starting it.

I found this out after replacing the starter lol

Volt meter on battery and starter while cranking too. Could be a clutch switch if manual trans.

Jump the solenoid with a screwdriver. Big lug from the battery to the little one.
