#11-06-01-004C: Engine Oil Consumption on High Feature V6 Engines - Air Cleaner Housing Test, Repair Procedure (Install Piston Rings, Service PCV System) - (Mar 26, 2012)

Condition
Some customers may comment about engine oil consumption on vehicles with higher mileage (approximately 48,000 to 64,000 km (30,000 to 40,000 mi).

Refer to the latest version of Corporate Bulletin Number 01-06-01-011 on testing for oil consumption and guidelines to determine if an oil consumption concern is present. If diagnostic procedures indicate that oil consumption is piston ring related, verify that oil consumption is greater than 0.946 L (1 qt) in 3,200 km (2,000 mi). If these conditions are met and oil consumption is greater than 0.946 L (1 qt) in 3,200 km (2,000 mi), perform the service indicated in this bulletin.

Green, if they really overfilled it, that's shady.

Take a black light and check for markings they put on the drain bolt. If there isn't markings, drain the oil down to where it should be. If there is markings, pump it out the fill tube.

No, I am going to go to the dealer tonight and show them that I know they over filled it. I have already confirmed that the consumption test states to not fill it above the grid markings.

I don't know the specifics of GM's caddy line, but many cars have 'normal oil consumption' levels established lately, especially with direct injection and/or forced induction (like on my GLI)

even my old '02 BMW 330CI had a specified oil consumption interval mentioned in the factory owner's manual. (I don't recall specifically what it was, I just got in the habit of checking the oil every or at worst every other fill up)

At the dealership now. They are draining the oil to the proper level. They assure me that they are going to fix the problem.

Did you warn them about the dangers of incurring the wrath of GL4x4?

after they "fix" it, give it back. you should have done some homework before buying it. those motors have had several issues. my buddy works at a caddy dealer and is constantly working on them, says they are junk. sorry to be harsh.

The sad thing is that I did do a little research on them. I spent at least 20 minutes on the interweb and saw mostly good reviews. I did not search specifical on Oil Consumption. I was sick of shoppig for cars and needed to buy one quickly. It is too bad. I love everything else about the car for the most part. Live and learn.... again.......

The fix to me is to give the car back to them. Stay tuned......

Kinda bummed to hear this is a common problem. A Caddy was on my list of cars I wanted to get for my wife.

I can sympathize.... We picked up a 2012 Focus with the "Powershift DCT"

Should have done more homework. Love the car otherwise, gets good mileage and is fun to drive. But the DCT is going to bite Ford in the ass.
