?? about selling a car

So my parents bought my sister a new car. They wouldn't let me buy her old one and they gave it to me. I was going to fix the things wrong with it and then use it as my DD to save gas money over my truck but with insurance, registration and fuel for the car, I don't think I will be saving any money.

So my question is, should I sell the car as-is and take what I can get, or fix the problems and try to get more money for it? The more I get for it the more bills I can pay off. I would have to put at least $150 into it. If I fixed all things it would be about $700-$800.

FYI it is a 2001 Alero 3.4 4 door with leather. About 130,000 miles.

Easy.. put the 150 into it. If it runs and drives it's a 1100 dollar car on Craigs list.... all day, every day. I sold my wife's 97 Grand Am, that stalled all the time, barely shifted, and had people fighting for it at 900.

Are you planning to get $700-800 all fixed up? I was looking around at used cars for my brother and if it needs $150 in parts it sounds better than most of the $2500+ shit boxes I have seen on CL.

I should mention the biggest thing is that the intake leaks which is given for the 3.4 but my sister drove it daily without problem. So it technically could be driven as is till it goes completely.

No dont keep driving it if its leaking if coolant is getting into the motor is washes down the cam bearings and then the cam breaks so i would fix that and sell it

Well based on other Aleros on Craigslist, I figured I would start at $3000 for it. This one seems in better shape than most on there. The $3000 would put me right around what I would hope to get after I put the $700-800 into it.

Yeah I know all about the intake problems, I used to fix about one a week at the dealer. This one is leaking a little externally only.

If you don't fix it, you'll sell it for less and the amount of people interested will be limited. Put the money into it and you'll get more money out of it with a larger amount of people that would be interested in buying. So, fix it up and sell it.

If you know how to fix the stupid thing and you've done many in the past.... it sounds like a nobrainer to me. Fix it.

I know. I just don't have time right now to fix it. Once the snow stops flying then I will have more time.

Has Inspector Lipschitz from the city been by to see you? He was hassling me even though the vehicles in my driveway were registered. He responded to my e-mail saying he would investigate and get back to me. That was a month ago and I haven't heard anything since.

The last run in I had with building/zoning I think it was Todd who told me I had to get rid of my egg laying hens a couple years ago. He bs'd with me about bikes for a little and then said I wasn't allowed to have the chickens. I almost thought he was joking until I got the notice in the mail

I haven't dealt with Todd, I've heard he was better to deal with than Lipshitz. When I moved to Wixom the chief of police lived next door and was rebuilding an airplane in his garage. There wasn't much out here but the Ford plant and farmland.

Do you live next to the DPW driveway on Charms rd? There was a chicken farm there as far back as I can remember.
