I guess somebody braked in front of her on sheet ice (I verified the ice, it was a skating rink when I got there) she braked and the ass slid out and down into the ditch (4 ft drop to about a foot wide level and another 2 foot back up to the field) clipping a sign and I guess she rolled three times according to witnesses, but looking at the earth and marks I think it was twice. It was a two post adopt a highway sign that acted as a ramp. Broke it in half. Landed about 50 yds out into a corn field. Pics are as it was when landed. Seems only body damage, I climbed in and fired it up and sounded good, no fluids underneath and dropped it in 4lo and drove that bitch out of the field up the ditch and to the road. I would of drove it home if the cops wouldn't of been on site. Pass Back door still works and has glass, and rear hatch is undamaged, and drivers rear side glass still there as well.

Seems the impacts were only to both "a" pillars and thinking the sign did the LF damage. Really no other impact points to the body, bunch of corn stalks and mud backed into the beads of the tires but all 4 were still inflated. Bags weren't deployed as the sensors weren't damaged.

Thinking I may do a body swap. Found a couple other 98's with bad 4.0L sohc for cheap and good bodies. Reading about doing motor swaps I think I can get the body swapped in a few hrs with the use of a hoist.

Faired pretty damn good in my opinion, walking away with the min. injuries she suffered and considering her Explorer has a 2" Body Lift. Body still appears square to the frame and all mounts intact.

I am already building one of those If I had the ability to just go out and buy a replacement vehicle for her I would just that. Chop the top and cage it for her to wheel. That idea was already talked about

The tow company profits... In Muskegon county anyways...

They justify it saying that when a CD (central dispatch) call comes in they stop what they're doing and respond. I've been mid-tow, and have dropped the customers car in one of my stash spots, and taken the CD call. The reasoning is this. If a company takes an exorbiant amount of time to respond they simply get kicked off the rotation. The equals big $$ loss. So essentially, you're paying a convience charge. the convience that you're getting moved to the front of the line.
Similar to ambulance calls... Got a heachache, call the ambulance instead of driving your lazy ass to the hospital. You don't have you wait in the waiting room, you get wheeled in to a spot upon arrival.

I guess that sucks considering when he got there I asked if he was busy, he replied with I was sitting on my ass waiting for the next job (me).

Funny though, he said he would follow me to my house to drop it and mid route he calls and said he needed to head back to the shop first to pick up a new slip for his next tow. His shop was 5 miles out of the way to get to my house......I was charged those 5 miles.

The government profits. That sucks it was $85 but I still would have taken 3 minutes to call my own wrecker. If you have roadside coverage turn the bill into your insurance company.

I would try and talk to someone worth talking to at that tow company. Smells fishy and maybe you can talk your way into a smaller bill? Good luck and just be glad its just the explorer your dealing with.

It doesn't matter if he was busy or not, you still get the convience charge. It wouldn't be 'fair' to charge one CD customer a extra fee and not another CD customer. The extra 5 miles... I would told him to fukc off, he can get his paper work on his own dime. If I had to guess, he had a lockout/ jump... Something easy around the corner that he wanted to grab real quick.

Insurance is covering the tow. I will be getting reimbursed. The point of the thread was asking to ask why and who. The tow driver couldn't explain it when I asked.

The cop looked at me kinda cross eyed when I climbed through the window and fired it up and drove it up and out of the field and onto the side of the road. I told him I wasn't gonna pay more to have the tow driver drag it 50 yds through the field and up the ditch when I could simply drive it there.

good call... I use to charge a dollar a foot of cable in addition to the service call... You could get a bill upwards 300.00 in no time flat for a CD call.
