Project Update #28: Lubricheck Production Delay Due to Needed IC Chip Upgrade

As announced in our last update, we ordered all the parts needed for our first production run of the Lubricheck just over one month ago. Production was anticipated to start by late August. But as luck would have it, about 3 weeks ago we hit another snag in the lab. It was determined that in order for the Lubricheck to hold the professional grade accuracy we have promised, a more powerful IC chip with added memory was needed. We instantly stopped all production of the circuit board assembly until we resolved the issue.

The good news is that we did find a new chip that would match the existing circuit board design. (No need to scrap thousands of half completed PCBs). This more powerful chip comes at a higher price, but we have decided to 'eat' the added cost, and continue with our plans to market the Lubricheck for $39.95.

As of this morning, Suman was nearly done with modifying the code needed to control this more sophisticated chip. Within 2 weeks, he and Charles (the 2 good looking guys in our videos) should be able to complete testing and any additional modifications to the code. If we can hold to this target, it will still be possible to be shipping sometime in October.

We are painfully aware that these several months of unexpected delays have earned us some blunt and deserved criticism. We are sure we have alienated many of you. If it is of any comfort, please consider that we have set out to invent our own technology from the ground up. Our patience and finances have been pressed to the limit over the past 4 years to meet our goal of producing an oil tester at 1/30th of the cost, and at 1/10th of the size of our competition. Over this long development cycle, we have proven to our own satisfaction the old expression, "If it were easy, anyone could do it."

Please hang in there! We see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we don't think it is an approaching train!

With appreciation,

The Lubricheck Team

they say they are going to be shipping soon. but man they've been delayed over a year now. lots of unhappy backers.

Lots of other kickstarter projects i've backed have been much better than these fools

Me too, flashlight doubles the value.

I have 3 vehicles right now that I would normally need to change the oil very soon, so we will see what the lubricheck says this week.
