Unless you get a smoking deal like a liv2mx is on his motor build, a cam and tune will end up being $800-1000 based on what I've been seeing; more if you push it up and need injectors and and and and

A lot of the cams I have been seeing are $300-400 vs the $150 350 small block cams. If you get enough cam to need valve springs add in a few hundred more. Then if you want some dyno time to get the cam dialed in instead of a mail order tune, add in a few hundred more.

After going through that scenario we spent the extra $300 on the LQ4 to be at least as good as a 5.3 with a mild cam. And we have an upgrade path later.

Having said that my buddy has a 5.3 in his buggy and is happy with it, much better than the 350 TBI it had. But he's keeping an eye out for a good deal on a 6.2...

So should I find a lq4 and live with it in stock form and sell the the 5.3 I have? It seems like that may be more cost effective than building the 5.3 from what johnnyj said. Plus it would leave me with the option of building it up in the future if I felt like I needed more.

i loved my 5.3 and it ripped.put a z06 cam and springs in it with a good tune and it will rip.summit has the cam and springs for a little over 500 bucks.i want alot more power that is the only reason im doing what im doing or i would keep my 5.3. b&d does the harness and tune for 400 bucks.he is on pirate in the vending section.he does only clip the unused wires he does not pull them all out.but its a 3 wire hook up with everything marked good.just my 2cents.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal. I also have an extra set of 5.3 heads, do you guys think it is worth bringing them out west with me and doing a mild port and polish job in my spare time. I have never done it before so I don't want to go too crazy just gasket match and clean them up a little.

Unfortunately this project may go on a longer break than anticipated. My neighbor stopped by today and asked if I wanted to buy his house. The house is perfect and I couldn't beat the price. I'm soooo excited to bulldoze my house down and move!

Well I think I am buying another jeep since I have to put the buggy on hold until I get settled in to the new house for a while. My neighbor in Colorado has a 79? Cherokee with a 401, th400, quadratrack with the low range option. It only has about 70k on it and runs and drives fantastic. The springs are sagged out so I'm thinking a small lift and some 33's. I will get some pictures up as soon as I get off my cheap ass and give him some cash. It has a little surface rust but no holes or anything like that. It should be a fun cruiser and light wheeling rig.

I'm sad to see it go but the buggy is sold! My new tj will be delivered to me in Colorado middle of next week. I will let the new owner of the buggy post up and claim it. I reserve the right to do a smoky burnout in it after you finish it

It wasn't for sale. I offered it to a friend and we managed to work out a deal. He is a member on here so I'm sure this won't be the last it will be seen. I'm also pretty sure I am going to end up helping finish it I bought a new house the day before I left for Colorado so I don't have the cash to finish the buggy. I am keeping my property and barns plus a new house. 2 house payments isn't cheap.... He has a nice tj he traded me and a friend is bringing it out to me next week so I can go wheel in the mountains. When he finishes it I am going to beat the shit out of it whether he likes it or not!

Whatcha got? The main things he needs are wiring, computer, gears, lockers, fuel cell, 4l60 to 205(the one I got from you) adapter, fuel cell, inner air locks for 16" rims, shifter. That is all I can think of since he already has coilovers.

I'm bummed to see it go but at least it is going to a friend.

He also needs steering parts. There is a Psc double ended ram but no orbital valve or lines.
