well, if you are unemployed, and offered employment that you would even consider, why wouldn't you at least try it?
If you don't like it look for something else after that...

BTW my brother-in-law is a carrier and loves his job.

My wife has worked for the P.O. for 28 years and as they are making cuts constantly it's still a good job with good pay and benefits. Tell me please any job that is perfect. They do have their share of BS that goes along with the job but nowadays what job doesn't?

Sorry I think I gave the wrong idea. I am going to take the job I figured the same thing I dont have a job and they are willing to give me one, take it and see what happens. I was more wondering pros and cons just to kind have a little heads up on what I am getting into. They office in my city is hiring but they are putting me in a office a 1 hr and 20 min away but hopefully I can transfer.

I have nothing useful to add but have always heard that if you can be a carrier, that it is a pretty good job if you like working mostly alone and don't mind dealing with the potential weirdos on your route.

I've always thought being a mail carrier would actually be a somewhat enjoyable job.

Espescially a walking route in town.

I've never really seen a postal worker who was desperately obese, they all seem just as reasonably miserable as the rest of us, and I am sure there is just as much crap to deal with as any other job....but....

I still think if you were given the opportunity to walk around outside all day delivering the mail life couldn't be all bad.

The was a place I worked that had an obese mail man. His gut literally hung down to his knees, I don't know how he tucked his shirt in because he let it hang over the top of his pants. I'm sure his flabby tummy wasn't his fault. It was probably a medical problem.
