Default eBay- not always pays off....

This seller got a rude awakening...... just because you haven't seen one in a while doesn't mean it's rare and valuable.

I know the buyer, he has the title and is picking it up next week. He only lives about 20 miles from the seller.

He put in an auto bid with a top bid of $30 for gits n shiggles. Gotta give the seller some respect, he gambled by not actually setting a reserve price but still honored the winning bid.

Yes, but he didn't set the reserve with eBay.

Gambled and lost.

To be honest, I'm into these old vans and I would want that thing off my property. Anything that looks that bad in pics probably looks 10x worse in person.

Yeah, there was no 'reserve price' in the listing, just a 'buy it now'.

Over at the vintage chevy van club site, the opinion is that the seller's wife wanted it gone.

The new owner is happy, I just hope the roof isn't rotted at the drip rails, very common and very difficult to repair.

You are technically right, you can be a dick, get a negative feedback, potentially loose Ebaying priveledges, etc by not following thru with a sale. Besides these reasons, why do you say that he doesnt have to sell it for that price?? He set up the auction, the buyer got a great deal, end of story.

he has 17 transactions in the past 12 months. not much e-pride/rep. to lose, and I'd guess that most of America's past couple of generations would say fukc their word and do just that and back out on it. they could even cite the description in their explanation to fleabay as a listing mistake in their plea for lenience.

regardless, thankfully there are some folks still with honor.

17 transactions is a decent ammount in Ebay world. The guy should know how to set up his add and his follow thur shows what type of person he is. The "he doesnt have to sell it for that price." comment instantly put an image in my head that Barry1me is young kid / "occupy" generation. Am I close Barry1me???

I'm sure he just wants to get rid of it, and now someone is going to show up and pay him money and get rid of it for him. win win.
