I would have hoped for a discussion on the thread instead of having the stance of "I'm so smart and chiefwoohaw is sooo ignorant" and most have given their thoughts which I and the rest of the GL4x4 community appricate. Then there are still a few that must prove how smart they are compared to me and I get it, and your super smart so do you think you could actually comment on the topic now?

When I typed that yesterday, it was right after landing from Germany...I was exhausted, yet could not sleep.

My thoughts on GM and lean. They have by far the leanest production of the domestics. Their GMS (Global manufacturing system) puts them right up there at #2.5 (Honda is 2, but GM is a close 3 IN PRODUCTION ONLY). LGR is an incredible operation. It is copy of Eisenach, which was GM's first greenfield lean plant. They took all the upside from NUMMI, and created the ideal operation. Eisenach is still considered one of the leanest plants out there.

You mentioned Spring Hill....this is not a benchmark facility by any means. They have some lean tools in place, but are no means world class. This was GM's first attempt at a modern plant (they failed miserably with Orion and Pole-town). The biggest strength they have in Spring Hill, is good union relations.

The manufacturing process at GM is not their problem, and it has not been for quite some time. That is reflected in their JD Power and Harbour numbers. The biggest problems they have Legacy costs (obvious), design (obvious) and time to market (still pretty obvious). To all those that bash their production system, and the UAW....it is obvious they have not seen these plants. Toyota is not that far ahead from a production side, it is the rest of the business that puts them miles ahead.

If you have any questions on your report regarding the Harbour Report, feel free to PM me (I know a little about this). Or is you have questions regarding certain plants, ask away as I have seen almost every plant on N.A. (I think their are 4 that I have not).

Honestly I only care do to the potential destruction of the economy if GM (more importantly Ford due to thier current operations) fail.

Glad to see you got some sleep and I apologize for commenting on your tired previous post.

So anyways. I think I would do a good job but I hope everyone thinks they would do a great job in the same situation. What are you living for if you do not think this?

I'm out of this discussion and will leave it to the guys with the intensive auto industry knowledge.
