Default Steel the basics....

I have done a little noob welding, nothing on anything that would drive down the road.

I just got this thing fired up (installed 220 outlet outside, the beauty of living in texas.) Everlast Power Arc 160 and it is awesome to say the least.

Anyway, I am working on converting an old gun safe into a reverse flow smoker. Looking around for plate, angle, flat stock, etc. Been nerdin around the web, and I think the type of steel I am looking for is an A36? Is this correct? It just a smoker so it doesn't have to be extremely strong, just cheap and complatable to 1/8 6011 rod.

That machine is capable of being set up for TIG but I am not quite up to that level of newbness to try it.

Yes. A36 is a low carbon steel that is just fine.

More importantly, lets see the smoker design.

I will have to get off my arse to get some pics up. So far its more of a bar napkin design. Until the welder was working and some other tools were acquired, I have not done much fine tuning so to speak.

I will be the first to admit I suck at the internet so bear with me on the links/pics.

This is basically what I am shooting for but with a rectangular cooking area (gun safe) vs the tubular propane tank.

Reverse Flow Smoker

This is how it works.
