thoughts on late model commanders?

I have a friend looking to buy a late model (09ish) hemi commander.

I dont have much time under the hood or in the seat of this specific vehicle so im asking the GL masses.

if you own or have owned one whats you view on them?

Pros/cons, ect.

she wants something to fit 7-8 people, 4x4, v-8 and dependable.

Mine cannot be lifted over 2 inches.
Jeep changed some parts in 08 and people with the superlift are having front diff failures.

The third row is for kids who like to crawl in and have no leg room.

I like the hemi but not the mpg.

I am actually working on one today. This is the general consensus on people who own them. The hemi has good power but gulps the gas. The 3rd row is almost useless. And makes for absolutely ZERO cargo are with the seat flipped up. As in you can't even put a bag of groceries back there. They are reliable in general. We have a few customers with them. Underneath (structure and driveline) they are essentially the same as a grand cherokee.

lift kit and tires are not in the future for this jeep. maybe a leveling kit at most with AT tires.

milage isnt the biggest concern for her since she dont drive alot of miles.

Ill let her know about the rear seat being useless maybe.

anyone know what rear end they have in them? what about what front diff?

My dad has a 2006 Hemi. It gets out of the way and will tow a vehicle on a trailer. Other than that there is nothing desirable about it. The stadium seating is stupid, if sitting in the second row you can't see anything out of the windshield. The third row is pointless. The front seats are a mile from the windshield. You can't see traffic lights unless you have a sunroof. The A-pillars block 50% of your view. Invest in blind spot mirrors.

Oh yeah, it has heated seats and those are nice.

Had a few. Always got better MPG in a HEMI. At least the 3.7L has a 5speed in the Xk.
Had a few Durangos too. Same with MPG, was better with a HEMI. I liked the ride and visibility better than the Xk. But they are butt ugly.
Typical brake issues on the D, blew out a power rack on the D. Never broke anything on an Xk.
Keep in mind high mileage Hemi engines will probably need plugs and I'd do a power flush on coolant and change diffs and tcase.

My wife had a 08 limited with a 4.7. Good balance of economy and performance. Rear window is useless, backup camera a godsend. Only issue was paint cracked at the antenna mount on Rh fender. Car washes pull on the antenna and flex the fender. Trac and stability control were great. I miss it, but we needed something with a useable 3rd row.

I'm 98% sure the rear end is the Chrysler 8.25. And I am about 75% sure the front is a D30 variation. If you get the quadradrive-II option they have electrpnic limited slips as well. Not that she cares much about that ha. If she is looking for a nicely optioned vehicle that isn't heinous (in my personal opinion the Durango previous the current design is ugly) check out a Chrysler Aspen. Very usable 3rd row even for an adult. Hemi is the usual option. Similar MPG.

aspen and durango look like crap imo but i will toss them out as options even though i dont care for the platform.

if she decides against the commander she will likely get a late model chevy suburban but wants somthing with more style than just a regular burban.

What is the highest grade you completed? 4th?

I like the commanders, they look neato. I haven't sat in or driven one in a long time, we decided they were overpriced.
