spend the extra couple hundred to have the heads checked and decked, do not have them go to far with the decking, it will drive up compression and put you into clearance problems with valves to pistons (if you have higher compression pistons)

Note, if you keep a 318 block, and go with 360 heads, the ports on the 360 will be larger than the 318 intake manifiold, (mostly taller) if you can swap out every thing from the short block up, you really do not need a larger cam lobe, as you have provided more air and fuel from the larger ported intake and heads. If you spend time polishing you can get the same flow of an over sized cam.

If you do both, you will have little to no low end, your motor will only run correctly on high rpm. you will loose most of your internal vacuum, and your brake booster will no longer function.

When I did mine like this I went from 5" of internal vac down to 1.5" of internal vac

I think I have almost everything planned out.. im going with car quest in cascade.. bored .030 over.. going .010 on the crank, doing a mid range comp cam, edlebrock assembled heads, having everything balanced, hopefully headers, and light weight pulleys.. i am hoping to drop the block off this week.
