I got the same thing! Pisses me off as I never authorized anyone to add me to a distribution list for spam from Sen. Levin or any of the Senators.

I sent a reply back asking to be removed from the distribution.

What an ass.

here's another one for the good guys

January 31, 2013

Dear Mr. Schneider,

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14, 2012. I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

On that day, 20-year-old Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and murdered 20 students and six people on school staff. He had earlier killed his mother, and he later killed himself.

As the community grieves the evil of Lanza's actions, my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this senseless act of violence and their families.

In the wake of this tragedy, we all want to prevent such violence from occurring again. But it is not wise to hastily implement policies that are unlikely to prove effective.

The Second Amendment limits Congress's power to restrict the right to purchase, transport, and possess a firearm. Arms in the hands of law-abiding citizens can deter crime more effectively than bans on common types of handguns and rifles.

I support states' ability to work out these issues according to the wishes of their citizens and within constitutional constraints, and I am skeptical of across-the-board federal mandates that restrict self-defense. I also support flexibility for state governments to address mental health issues.

I will keep your comments in mind as I continue to monitor these issues. Thank you again for contacting me, and please feel free to contact my office if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Justin Amash
United States Representative
Third District of Michigan

I finally got to respond and here it is : Senator Levin, You are not protecting the rights of responsible gun owners and furthermore you are totally disregarding the 2nd ammendment. Please tell me the last time a law abiding citizen mass murdered innocents. The point you and your fellow gun grabbing partners are missing is the fact the all these recent shootings were committed by sick individuals on mood altering drugs. You guys will not go after the real problem of these mood altering drugs as you get so much monetary support from these companies.Furthermore these so called assault rifles are not assault rifles. Assault rifles are fully automatic like the M4 the military uses. They are capable of firing 950 rounds per minute while my AR-15 can shoot 50-60 rounds per minute . So assault rifles are already very hard to get and the majority of the general population don't own them so we in fact do not have the same weapons the military has. I can only hope you will read some of the responses you have been getting as it's obvious you did not read the petition information that was sent to you by so many as we all got the standard response that proved you did not read it . Either that or your so incapable of understanding the true statistics or you just decided to ignore the facts based on your own feelings. This is not what you were elected to do. You were elected to protect the rights of law abiding citizens and to protect our Constitution . If you can not do so then I as well as many others, from what I'm seeing on my chat forums will make sure you don't get a return to office. Sincerely, Mr.
