It's a portal axle flipped upside down.

My gawd that picture gets around
The best part is those unique axle shafts. One of a kind. They're like a zillion dollars to replace if they break!

You're new around here aren't you? Look at the picture closer. Reread my post with extra thick sarcasm and you may see it.

Portals are chain or gear driven, aren't they? I'd guess they were some sort of a bastardized CV shaft... Kinda like a rear drive shaft in a tube..

A john deere mud hog offset hydralic drive axle would be ideal for an offroad vehical. If you had a hydraulic driven diesel and direct drive pump from a gleaner combine you would have no drive line angle issues of any kind.

Toss that "special" front axle in the scrap pile along with the front leafs.

Get a standard solid 30's front axle, with vented drums. Move the axle closer to the grill and run a 2 link/ mono leaf and air bags tucked behind the headlights and the front axle is done.
Out back get some M37 springs, remove all but the lower leaf. Half that leaf run air bags and a V linkage in the rear. Toss some paddle tires on the rear and some skinnies up front. Put some silencer cones in the exhaust and a headache hoop behind the driver and passenger so everyone "feels" safe.

Once all that was done. Yes, I would wheel it for a few months on flat trails and out at the dunes then sell it.
