What I find funnier than 'mint' is 'excellent condition for it's age'. Usually translates to 'you can't quite see through the sheetmetal yet'.

I would agree....the next comment is usual rust for the truck, or good condition for the year lol.

I looked at a 2 door Cherokee that was for sale on here a few years ago, described extensively as the nicest one I'll ever find, drove 2 hours, wouldn't start when I went to test drive, quarter was hit then rhino lined (just the one) and the interior was full on destroyed, what looked like puke on the the carpet missing sun visor, drooping ripped headliner, it was rust free though....

"Ran great when parked" or "runs great needs fuel pump" are always dismissed.

I could careless about the body. Be realistic, the car cost how much and where do we live. Actually I am more concerned about something that has "fresh paint" then something rusted out with stock paint.

Anything that has close to 300k and says something like "runs like a top" always gets a laugh.

Come on though be realistic. Most of the cars that have descriptions like above and in the previous post are very low cost cars. They should have issues on top of all the factory issues associated with the car.
If you spend $500 what kind of car are you realistically looking to get? Good chance if you toss another grand at it you will have a decent runner to get you around for a few years until it goes and you need to buy another. No one wants to buy that car for $1500 though and the seller will know they will loose there butt if they toss the cash into it.

I have used the term "mint" before. I was selling the car for $8500 and took $7900. The car had previously been fully restored (professionally) and I bought it way below what it was worth. I drove it for the summer then sold it way below what it was worth. I am not greedy, if I get a deal I will pass it on. My definition of "mint" means no mechanical, paint, interior, non OEM, or other defects to speak of.
The term "mint" and "showroom quality" should be equal. If your ride would look out of place sitting between a two similar types of rides that are "showroom quality" you have no place using the term "mint".

I snagged this totally mint 98 Buick for $200 as a daily driver for my son.

Really, for $200 it runs and drives. Wipers stop in the up position, digital odometer doesn't light up, power door locks just buzz instead of lock and the PO was a heavy smoker that never emptied the ashtray. Car is actually kinda gross inside.

But- it gets him to work.

It's worth more than that in scrap.

It's not a bad looking car. I told my son not to bother fixing it up as the PO (a co-worker) told me it has 'well over 300,000 miles on it'.

I said, 'Just drive it, and save money for a better car. When it dies, you'll get more than $200 for it at the scrapyard.'

I just love the saying about diesels and I am sure I don't need to type it out for you to know what I am talking about. Stupid diesel owners, yes I own one finally. Mine is better than new with only 81,000 on it though.

Let me guess, something along the lines of "350,000 miles just barely broke in"

"This was driven by a women." Which means "This may have been driven carefully, but probably has not been maintained. Some door dings."

I don't understand people who say the phrase "I sold it way below what it was worth. If I get a deal I will pass it on" if you sell a car that is worth 12k for 8k and you think you seriously could have got closer to 12k but you let it go "to be nice" your an idiot. (We already know your an idiot) I bought a tj this summer for 1200 did brake lines and sway bar links and it now is very nice. I have about 1300 into it and could probably list it in the 4500 range. To sell it for 1500 to "pass on the deal" would be the dumbest this I could ever do. What I think you meant to say was that you thought the car was worth more than it actually was since value is dictated solely on what people are willing to pay for it.

I like the ones that say "over $75,000 (or whatever huge amount) invested" but selling for $5,000.. I understand some people have to sell things if they have an emergancy but just makes me think, hummmmmm...

That just tells me they don't know what an investment is. They should have to write " I wasted $75,000 on this"
