Default help with winchester #94

i picked up a winchester model #94 and the ser# dates it from 1943 to 1947. i did notice that someone in past has drilled 4 screw holes into side of reciever at somepoint to mount a scope. i did not notice till after i got it home that one of the holes had actually went most of the way thought the side and left a ink pen size hole into the reciver were bolt slides. the gun opens and closes fine and done seam to be affecting anything but is this safe to shoot and how much did it kill the value of this gun. it is in good condition minus the scope tap and i got $300 in it. did i do ok or pay way to much?
