Know what the difference is between a $500 car and $5000 car?

The $5000 car is shinier.

Been to a couple auctions with a friend that works for a used car lot, he says the worst thing they ever did was open them to the general public because the prices get bid up to near retail fairly quickly.

That said, have fun but don't fall in love.

keep and eye on this online auction. Its held just south of Grand Rapids, and they hold an auction every Thursday. Should be able to find a decent car for $5000.

Just don't expect to get too many screaming deals right now.
Last auction I went to (November) I saw someone pay over retail on a 300C

Tax time brings a lot of hood rats with fresh income tax checks. The prices are higher for a couple months.

Very true! If you go very soon, you might beat them there.

When I was in college I went to one to get a car. I took my step father with me. He is a mechanic and actually found me a good little car for $700.

Send a message via Yahoo to bdd1469
As long as you are not too picky you will find something.
Cash for clunkers and opening auctions up to the public really screwed things up.
A lot of people fall in love with a car and bid it up past retail in no time. In the end, people pay more for a car they could have bought at a lot.
