Question Carb Recommendations (help me choose)

goin on my 400 sbc. 80% trail, 20% road... usually

Trying to figure out my best option:

Option 1:
Buy an older Qjet, rebuild and use. Figure I can buy and rebuild it for $75 or less. then get adapter plate for square bore intake for another $25. I might know someone with a good Thermoquad too otherwise... not sure if same bolt pattern as Qjet.

Option 2:
Buy a used holley, and hopefully just bolt on and go

Option 3:
Save up for a truck avenger or equiv. I know there is one for sale on here at the moment. Don't have the cash lying around to purchase at this time.

Option 4:
Something else, you tell me.

Picked up a new fuel cell for it, but still need a carb so I can finally drive 'er around.

You cant beat a good working q jet in my opinion. You could pick up a vac secondary holley and add off road needle/seat and vent tubes.
If you want to borrow a q-jet untill you save some bucks I have a few laying around.

a holley can be easily made into a great offroad carb with a little work..
find an old 600-700 with side hung floats, make a connector between the two bowl vents and buy some vent whistles.

have a 600 side hung. broke her open after motor failed to start and narrowed it down to carb, the bowls were full of that white buildup. I don't think I can rebuild it, needle valve is stuck inside the bowl too.

Think it is worth my time trying to clean the holley I have then? It had a problem with the vac secondaries not opening. and now has plugged bores...

I'll shoot you a PM with my cell # so I can borrow (or buy cheap) a Qjet off ya.

I am running a Holley Truck Avenger and have no complaints other than I need to tweak the choke settings. Oh and the mpg while towing bringing the suck is true, but i don't think you plan to tow with it anymore though.

I may have been a little throttle happy though when I left Flint the last time it was in the road and had a trailer in tow. I can't wait until I can on Flint for good.
