Finished up the frame sleeve for the driver's side (no pic, it's basically the same as the p-side). I wanted to fix two things with the D-side. (1) I had some damage to the frame where the steering box mounted due to an accident before I bought it and typical XJ cracks/failure in this area. (2) When I installed my D44 front I moved the location forward 2" and the pitman arm/track bar were very close as well as my 5.3L PS pump pulley was about 2mm from the steering box. So I wanted to relocate my steering box down and forward.

Banged it back into shape and fixed some of the damage.

Plated and redrilled for new location.

Steering box mounted down a little and forward.

Craig ( 1x1_Speed_Craig ) hooked me up with a spare steering shaft to go with the relocated box - thanks Craig!

This is what I came up with, I think it will work pretty well. Now I can get to work n the bumper.

So what are you thinking for the bumper?

I ran out of gas for the my welder so I will finish up and upload some pics tomorrow. I did my d-rings similar to yours but with a bit more movement allowed front to back.

My basic ideas were to keep the bumper low profile while putting my winch as low as possible. The previous bumper had super good clearance but the winch blocked most of my grill. It was most noticeable on the dunes when temps would climb and have a hard time coming down. I dropped it almost 6" with this design.

I also wanted to mount an ATV winch under the radiator to use as a suck down. Although its not quite finished I am pretty happy with what it's turned out to be.

Hope I can pull it off, that's a lot of pressure! I did have a little Jeep ADD this morning when I went to a friend's shop to use his plasma cutter. He made this computer controlled cutting table and the next thing I know we were putting in my rear frame measurements and cutting out my rear stiffies. Time to re-focus...

I still have to figure out what I want to finish it, but I have some ideas. I have some heavy wall poop pipe left over from when I did my first bumper 8 years ago. It held up really well to abuse, so I will be using it again.

Suck down winch tucked away under the radiator.

Recovery winch plate and bottom of the approach.

D-ring mounts like this on both sides, stole the idea from RDK
Instead of buying a d-ring mount I welded another piece of 3/16" plate to the outside and a piece of 1/4" angle tied into the frame horn. It's a total of 5/8" thick where the d-ring hole is.

Here's where it sits now until Monday. Most of my grill is open to airflow again so I'm happy.

As soon as I get it hooked up I will post pics of it working, but basically it hooks to the front axle to pull the front of the Jeep down on a steep climb.

A little progress on the bumper, I'm digging it so far, what do you think?

Probably spent more time than anyone in history on my fairlead mount, but it came out nice. It's not easy to see, but there are a couple angles to bring it around the front and smooth it out.

Not quite done with the poop pipe, but its probably going to look something like this.

Looks good. Are you putting plate in front of the tube, next to the fairlead?

Yes, planning to fill that little strip, then put a top on the whole thing too.

Mostly finished the bumper. I am very happy with the way it turned out. Low profile, tight and maintained a good approach while opening airflow to the radiator.

I'm going to cap the top like this. The hole is to access my suck down winch.
