'01 burbin 5.3 codes & thremostat

On my yj I can do the ignition thing(on/off/on/off/on) to get codes. Is there a way to do it on an '01 burbin or do I need a reader?

Also, where is the thermostat?

TIA

you will need a scan tool, if you are in the troy, mi area i can scan it for ya, i work at mike savoie chevrolet. as for the thermostat it's in the waterpump. if you look down at the pullys on the front of the engine from the air box side you'll see it right where the lower radiator hose goes into the waterpump!!
