Default Gas gauge

I have a 98 c1500 v6 gas gauge worked great got gas now it only works from like a full tank to 3/4 but once it gets that close it goes back to full once it reaches 3/4 but if I let it sit and run it will move to half or so if its that's low. but just maybe a little info could it be sending unit? Or gauge in dash? Or maybe fuse? Just confused on this one? Thanks for info
