The rear axle is upside down in the pic. It is a standard low pinion 9"

If it is low pinion the knuckles must be on upside down.

Oil isn't the issue if it is flipped upside down

Straight or reverse cut gears make no difference. You can't flip a low pinion axle over and have the axle spin the correct way. The axle will go backwards.

I don't think you understand, it doeant matter if it is for off-road use. If you put that in and put the vehicle in drive it will go backwards. The only way it will work is if you have a rear engine buggy.

with the housing flipped upside down as a high pinion it works in the front and gets plenty of oil i no of a few front engine mud trucks useing them the old boss rail ran one for years hillbilly stomp is running a 9'' front axle right now and there is a geo tracker on racing junk that is running a 9'' front so it can be done and yes i have seen guys useing them with a rear engine buggy also like scoopy doo ... we pulled the housing apart the other day to check everything out and all looks good and found out it has 4:86 richmond pro gears andhas 31 spline axles .... also for case options i talked to a couple of the guys running this set up and two are running a dropcase, one a 208 and the other one was running a chain set up no case...

When you put a low pinion rear axle in the front it has to stay low pinion. Just like the high pinion 60 I built for the rear of my last project. If you buy an aftermarket high pinion center for a 9" it will work and if you leave it as a low pinion for the front it will work. If you have a t case of some sort that will change the direction the front driveshaft spins you could flip the housing and make a rear low pinion a high pinion. If memory serves hillbilly stomp has a fabricated 9" housing, Dana 44 knuckles and a low pinion center section.

Go put your truck on jackstands and put it in drive and pay attention to the direction the front driveshaft is spinning. Now spin the pinion on that axle the same direction and post back with the direction the tires are going.
