Just not a teeny one, they have some stout recoil.

And they have a hard time pulling the slide back to load it.

I would never set my wife up with a .380. My wife Carrys a s&w .38 spl 2" barrel. Works well for her no slide to deal with and very low recoil. Oh and no shells left at the site if she should need to use it.

My wife carries a .40. 95 lb daughter has a 9mm.

Don't screw around with .22s, .25s, .380s, etc...

Most of my cop buddies and all of my emt buddies say no to the 380. People who get hit with that go to the hospital, people who get hit with anything bigger go to the morgue they've noticed

I read it as he is looking for a plinking gun not a personal protection piece.
BTW, my wife shoots a .45 for personal protection. Even a extremities hit will put them back on the floor.

85% of people shot with a handgun, of any caliber, survive.

This is undoubtedly true. "Stopping" power doesn't exist in handguns rounds until you start talking about .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, etc.

Rifle rounds have "stopping" power. Most handgun rounds move too damn slow.

Get a Charter Arms .357 ( just start her out, loading it with good 38 special ammo) or a Charter Arms 38 special revolver, to start with. They are light weight (about 24 oz.), concealable and you can buy them new for a pretty cheap price -$300. For $300 you get a decent quality, reliable, American made handgun. Regards, Steve

The the OP, fwiw, my wife shoot my .40 cal way better, easier, more accurately than my 9mm. It's all about the gun. Take her to a range, rent a few different ones, and see what works best for her.

A gun is worthless if you can't hit shit.

My daughter started with a 38 special J frame. Due to concealment issues she rarely carried it. Now she carries a .380 LCR almost daily.

Carrying a gun with lower impact is far better than leaving a gun with high impact at home. For all those who say a .380 is useless, I doubt anyone would want to get shot by one at 10 ft.

Ruger LCR .357 magnum, if she can handle the recoil, loaded with Remington Golden Sabre 125 grain. 1 shot saved my life/ ended his.
