Default What could be slowing down my router?

I connect directly to the wireless router and I get 15+ MB/s I connect wirelessly and I get .5 MB/sec. It is a brand new Cisco/Linksys Wireless N router.

Every computer/tablet in my house is drawing the same speed.

I have rebooted everything.

When I had a similar issue, if found out that there are updates for routers, it was news to me. Mine hadn't been updated in 6 years. I get your's is new, as in, just bought, but maybe it has an older operating program?

Jake, this is a simple 6 step process.

1. Call Charter
2. Arrange a meeting with supervisor
3. Rape supervisor.
4. ???
5. Post pics
6. Enjoy 'after glow', and supervisor's crys while surfing internet at blazing fast speeds.

Charter was out initially, replaced my modem even though that was not the problem. It is definitely my wireless router, as I plug into it and get higher speeds @ 15mb/s (still not the 30mb/s I pay for)

I had my charter modem needed replacing the week of Thanksgiving. I was down to 100kb/s.

Look for a firmware update on the router.

Try changing the bandwidth settings in the router. You could have some other device around that is broadcasting at the same frequency as your router.

Gay pron put a lot more stress on a router than straight pron. That could be it.

What speed does the client say it's connecting at? What if you change the type of security? You could try eliminating the security altogether and then test. Then try a different encryption. Bluetooth can interfere with the 2.4Gz band.

Perhaps your intial account download limit is .5kb/sec. It's possible. If you experience increased speed using a computer that id directly connected to the modem, then the issue is with your router.

Have you tried both ways?

connect the pc straight to the modem run a speed test if it is still no high speed then it is an issue with the cable compamy, and alot of cable companys offer free wifi or a small monthly fee like $2 or $3 for there router.... worst case just buy a new one sometimes they just starty to slow down and not function properly for no reason exept there just burnt out

Yes connected directly via cable I get 15-30MB/S

Wirelessly is the only time I have issue, is is definiely something to do with the router as stated above.

I will have to mess with it this weekend if I can't mess with it tonight.

I was thinking that.

That said, I had a break from work where I wouldn't need the net and did a hard reset and then re-set up the router. Seems to be fine now with 20-30MB/sec downloads like it should have had.

Edit: Well fukc , that didn't last long. Back down under 2.

Edit: It appears my wireless security cameras are interfering with it somehow. They are not even on this network. I turn them off and all my speed comes back.

Edit 2: moved the receiver for the camera's upstairs, seems fine now, WTF.

Changing channels made no difference.

Wireless interference, I have a pair of wireless headphones that do the same thing.

changing a single channel will make no difference, you need to skip more than 2 channels with 2.4 ghz 802.11 bs, otherwise the communication's overlap (think of a dozen people yelling in a room at the same time, and trying to listen to 1 person).

I think it is funny though that with the receiver for them upstairs, literally 8' above where it was there is no interference, or at least far less. The cameras (transmitting) did not move.

I can take the laptop upstairs too and speed is not affected up there next to the receiver. I do not know the field, but I would have thought the interference would have happened anywhere within range of both devices. (Probably why I am not in the field)
