Doomsday Preppers....

Is this what it comes down to?
Preparing and wanting to preserve for yourself and family and the government can come in and take at will.

A man who it barred from owning guns because he is a convicted felon is found to be in possession of guns. So the police raided his property and took the guns away.

I have no problem with this.

The problem is- for 20 years he had no interaction with the law, owned what are in reality hunting rifles, and had broken no laws- other than the one they would have had no knowledge of if he hadn't gone on television.

This is the biggest problem with drug laws, someone gets convicted on ANY drug charge, and rights are removed for life. Whatever happened to making the punishment fit the crime? (just for clarity, if he was using a gun to do a drug related crime, well- the lifetime ban is appropriate. Not enough info)

If anything, he's guilty of stupid, but unfortunately it's still legal to be stupid.

Durr.

Banned for life for a conviction on a non-violent crime is excessive.

However, knowing you have a felony on your record, acquiring guns through a straw man purchase, and the going on TV and showing the world what you have as a 'prepper' is pure stupid.

I don't see anything about him being on TV. Whether a felony drug conviction 20 years ago should disallow from owning guns today is a whole other debate.

Based on what I read in that article it sounds like the police handled it correctly. I'd much rather they go through the expense of overkill than have police officers killed because they went in unprepared.
