Default cherokee hp dana30

Have a 97 tj with lp Dana30 and upgrading to an xj HP Dana30. I have found a 94' HP Dana30 but have read the best r the 96-99 due to the 760x u joints. The 94 happens to have the same as my lp Dana30 in wrangler. Is this the only difference, the u joints? I can change those out to the larger 760x right?

Dude is asking $150 for the 94 xj HP Dana30

Tell me what u think? The reason for swap is because pinion nut backed off and gerenaded the r&p on lp Dana30 tj. Have to gear either one back to 4.56 and felt the HP runin on drive side is stronger in r&p so might aswell spend $150 for a better axle

your tj should have the larger size u-joints and you can just put your tj shafts in the hp housing

I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one, unless it was complete including the shafts, knuckles and brakes. I'd pay more if it'd been regeared, locked, etc...

R the u joint in tj axle shaft Dana30 weaker or the same as the u joints in the 96-99 xj HP Dana30? I read the xj has 760x which r the same as the Dana44 in wranglers. R the axle shafts the same strength?

Some 95 wrangler and all 96 and up jeeps have 760 sized joints
You can check with a quarter
The 760 u-joint cap is bigger then a quarter and the smaller one is about the same size

That will help. I've done some research and have found that the abs xj HP Dana30 had the 760x u joints. The non abs ran 297x.

So I am in the market for an abs 96-99 xj HP Dana30 if u or know of anyone who has one please pm me.

The 5-760x is a replacement for the 297x. The smaller joint is the 260x found in pre 96 non abs models. I played $ 50.00 for my hp30. If you can find a 4 cylinder 5 speed Cherokee it will have 4.10 gear as well.

I have sold 3 in thee last year for $100 or so. All without axle shafts/bearings.

Buy a $400 Cherokee, remove front axle, trans and t case.

Scrap everything else!

Sell trans $100
Sell t case $100
Scrap $350

hpd30 project will cost you -$150 or keep a pile of spare parts around

Parting beaters is a spectacular way to get cheep parts!
