Default Allstate sucks ass so does the Skip Sampson Branch

My experience with Allstate Insurance and the Wixom, MI Skip Sampson Allstate branch
To start off I have been a customer for nearly 4 years with no claims or tickets. I have paid on time every month as well. Over the past year my rates have climbed higher and higher with no explanation. Because I had been with Allstate for so long I thought I would be getting a fair price, until I received a quote from State Farm that was WAY less with lower deductibles than Allstate had been charging me. Feeling sick that a company I had been so loyal to was taking advantage of me was bad enough, or so I thought.
On 11/27 I contacted the agent to cancel my policy after beginning a new policy with State Farm. I faxed my new information and was told it had been taken care of. Allstate then pulled my premium on 11/30 because the person who had "processed" my cancelation, canceled neither of my auto or motorcycle policies. On Monday 12/3 I go back to the branch and the young lady who had "processed" my cancelation replied to my issue with, "oops, yeah what can you do?", how about your job? I am then told I may get my money that was wrongfully taken, back in 10 days, unacceptable in my opinion but if I had a timeline I could deal with it. I then had to go to my credit union to have them fax my checking account statement to proof that they withdrew money from my account! I am again contacted today 12/5 that the agent has just now contacted corporate and I should expect a fraction of what was taken out for the auto policies. After the past hour trying to get on the line with someone in the USA instead of a call center I got nowhere. Just a PSA and of the kind of service you can expect from Allstate and Skip Sampson branch.

I have Progressive. The only time my policy has increased was when the took away the helmet law. On my old Chevy pick up, I was paying $180 for PLPD. That was under my dads name (CDL A, B, Hazmat, cycle end.) which he has had a clean driving record for probably 30 years, not to mention the policy was on a 23 year old pick up! I switched to Progressive, got a policy under my own name, and was paying about $50 a month for PLPD. I don't like Allstate.

Progressive here. No tickets or claims in 6 years. they've lowered my rates twice, think I'm a gold member now. Easy to add remove vehicles online and print tags. I have the cheapest coverage you can get, none of my Jeeps are worth full coverage.

USAA here. Allstate and the branch out in Durand forced me to move to another carrier.

I left Allstate nearly 20 years ago after they failed to cover a theft loss of the factory stereo unit in an older honda civic we had used as a beater/commuter. (it had comp. on it)

I had roughly 10 years of paying into their system for cars/renter's insurance w/out a claim - haven't considered doing business with them for home-owner's or auto/boat insurance ever since.

as far as I know, nobody in my extended family inlaw/outlaw/blood relatives uses them either. they do suck. bad. as in like they'd use teeth and actually "blow" if they were giving a bj.

I laughed for real, and a hunk of bologna sandwich flew and hit the screen.

I've had Allstate for the last 3 years and it's been great. I used to have state farm for many years. My whole family used them and I was with them since I started driving. Long story but state farm in my book can suck a fat baby's dick. If you want to give Allstate another try I'll give you the info for my guy. He is right on top of things.

I have citizens. My rates have done nothing but go up. I need to get serious about shopping for a new firm.

While my agent's office has idiots that have done wrong, contacting corporate has been just as bad. A year ago I would have said Allstate is great that's because I have not needed any customer service or questioned my rates going up.

I've been with Allstate for about 20 years with no issues. When I bought my parents house in Wixom I checked with their State Farm agent and it was more expensive than what I was paying Allstate. So I stayed with Allstate. After my 4Runner was crunched in Uwharrie last spring I called them up. Adjuster came to work and wrote me a check for what I thought was a very fair settlement within an hour. I call my agent to take my vehicles in and out of storage with no issues.

We have had Citizens ever since we left Allstate and generally yes rates have gone up somewhat.

On our home-owners (we bought the house in August of 2000, it's gone up roughly 35% in actual dollars over the past 12 years. Using a rough inflation adjuster, it's gone up 5% in inflation-adjusted-dollars - over 12 years. During that time we had two separate home-owner's claims, including one that required re-siding the entire home.

The house is insured for $276k +contents, plus a separate rider I won't disclose the amount of (in part cause I can't remember exactly) for jewelry that my wife owns as a result of her father being in the business and giving her fancy expensive baubles for most of her life - we pay $1,05x/year with a $500 deductible - doesn't sound that excessive to me honestly.

It's difficult to really track the price on the cars because we've changed them so many times. According to SmithPeaBodyStyles/Brown & Brown we can save a bit of money by going with Progressive. However, Citizens has been great with each and every car claim we've had (2 deer, and the BMW was totaled in a head-on crash)

*dunno*

I had allstate for years and switched to state farm about 4 years ago. I need to compare my rates now but state farm was almost half of what I was paying allstate for my cars and home insurance.

I had Allstate a long time ago and had no issues then the seemed to suddenly get very tight about paying a claim. Turns out they carried a lot of flood insurance and there had been a big hurricane in Florida and the major floods in the midwest all in one year. I heard they nearly went under having to pay all the claims. I wonder if Sandy is causing similar issues now.

I have used Allstate for the past few years. No complaints yet but I am checking other rates as of now. My agent has never had an issue with me taking vehicles on and off storage with a simple voicemail. I insure two cars full time for less than $190 a month. One is an old beater the other is a newer minivan.

is that a good price around you, and/or are you a younger driver with a record?

If I recall correctly (Citizens does pay all at once, or breaks it into bi-monthly installments and I haven't seen an invoice in a while) I around that for:

2008 Ford Taurus X (fancy model, but not the AWD, honestly can't recall but I think SEL?)

and a 2008 VW Jetta GLI Turbo <-- sees over 30k miles/year commuting, clean driving record, one total collision loss in past 14 months

the Jetta caused a slight increase vs. the BMW it replaced (it's newer and the turbo of course = premium surcharge)
