Homeland Security graduates first Corps of Homeland Youth

October 7, 2012. Vicksburg. The federal government calls them FEMA Corps. But they conjure up memories of the Hitler Youth of 1930’s Germany. Regardless of their name, the Dept of Homeland Security has just graduated its first class of 231 Homeland Youth. Kids, aged 18-24 and recruited from the President’s AmeriCorp volunteers, they represent the first wave of DHS’s youth corps, designed specifically to create a full time, paid, standing army of FEMA Youth across the country.

Interesting. . . bet they are pretty much worthless to society but will secure government jobs. . . just guessing.

According to SS, they are basically all the equivalent to Hitler Youth.

the cub scouts are federally recruited and trained?

ever been involved in even a local/regional disaster declaration? I've been called up for damage assessment a couple of times and even the State level programs are lacking. the fed's idea of throwing a bunch more money at problems don't save any more lives or property. they do make a handful of people into instant millionaires however.

FEMA is a joke.

I remember reading a quote from Adolph Hitler: "give a boy a uniform and a knife and he will kill for you"

Good thing hitler was right on the moneyor this country probably wouldnt exist.

Ryebread its a good thing you cherrypicked the scouts out of that question... To answer your question, yes i have. And i agree, the government wastes money like noone else. And fema is useless.

Im betting the "dhs youth army" is the same as and other youth explorers program. Id also bet that if i clicked on the link there would be an accompanying picture of some kids whose skin are varying shades of brown marching in formation.

I picked the one out that most obviously didn't fit. Your list wasn't long enough to prove your point so you thought you'd sneak an unrelated one in?

clicking the link takes you to a tiny photo of their keynote address during the induction ceremony that is shrunk down from this site: http://www.fema.gov/blog/2012-09-13/...naugural-class

along with some photo's of miltiary-esque vehicles.

hey, I didn't read the link either. I just can't stand big Government. Local and regional is bad enough (and I've worked for, or along-side same most of my career)

I see what youre saying, I could have named the cadet program for every branch of military and the explorers for every type of civilian law enforcement? Scouts kind of have similar goals

Ages 18-24? Not really youth. This is the same age you can join any other military branch. What is the big deal with this?

I posted it because it was interesting. Yet another giant waste of our Chinese tax dollars. Why does FEMA have better MRAPs than the Army?
