Gonna have to agree with you there.

I've owned a lot of AR-15s myself from home built to S&W M&P15s to Colts, Bushmasters, DPMS and Del-Ton.

Not a single one of them ever gave me a problem. None of these rifles mentioned in this thread are going to be carried overseas in an austere environment under combat conditions with piss poor maintenance so why are they being judged to that effect?

AR-15s these days are mass produced and there are bound to be a few bad apples in a bunch. For every problem rifle that is posted about and passed around on the internet there are 20 out there that have never had a hiccup and run all day long.

If you find a rifle you like, it's in stock, and it's at a good price then buy it and enjoy it.

If you're looking to join up with a contractor and deploy overseas then it's a different story and we can make another thread in the Firearms section discussing these weapons.

As for the OP's question... Buying a semi for precision shooting is like buying a Honda for speed. Why spend $20,000 making your Honda Civic into a 10 second car when you can spend $15,000 on an old Camaro and turn it into a 9 second car?

You can build a much more consistent, accurate and reliable rifle out of a Remington 700 for way less money than you'd spend on a semi trying to achieve the same thing.

how do you like the DPMS? I have been looking at 3 308s, the RRA, LMT, and the DPMS.

I love it. I got a screamin' deal on it a while back. I bought the .308 Classic as more of a nostalgia service rifle chambered in a much more useful round.

3/4" groups at 100 are easy with the iron sights. I was very surprised with the performance being that it's a $1000 rifle. I haven't had the opportunity to stretch its legs but I don't see hitting steel at 500 being an issue at all.

This rifle will be staying exactly how it came. All I wanted was a M16A3 chambered in 7.62x51 and that's exactly what I got. Not a single jam yet using PMags and I love how it feels. It is a pretty heavy rifle coming in at 12 pounds though.

I'll be trading it off in the near future though for a Colt LE6920 to build a clone of the rifle I carried in Iraq though.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

If you have a question about anything firearms related jump over to http://www.snipershide.com/forum and use the search function on the right side of the page. You don't need to make an account to access the INCREDIBLE amount of knowledge from professionals, gunsmiths, vendors and competitive shooters available there. You'll also find some incredible deals in the For Sale section on that site but don't plan on selling anything until you hit the 100 post limit. They also need to be 100 QUALITY posts contributing to the knowledge base on the site.

If you aren't worried about weight and want a semi-auto .308 with accuracy, how about an M1A?

AR-10 would be a much better and cheaper platform for this application. M1A isn't that accurate of a rifle.
