Wheeling state land next weekend

So the wife and I are heading to the Rose City area the day after Thanksgiving and were thinking of taking the Jeep. I'm a little iffy since it's hunting season, what are everyone's thoughts on running trails on state land during rifle season? I don't want some hillbilly to mistake me for a deer and throw some rounds my way.

Well if you go to the orv area in st. Helen you don't need to worry about getting shot. Plus you can play on the rocks they put there.

Legally, there is nothing saying you can't do it. However, the days surrounding Thanksgiving are usually the busiest days in the woods after the first few days of rifle season. I'd probably avoid it unless you plan on being out after dark just to avoid any issues though.

No ,,It is the Citidiots that hunt the state land that would shoot you , and a possible Off spring of theirs the Kidiiot that will take a crack shot at everything that moves. The Hillbillies shot their deer the night before season opened and and are all drunk now.

Give the hunters a break. You have all year to wheel, they have 2 weeks.

That was my plan anyway, I just wanted to confirm. This means I don't need to put the Jeep back together this week too.

Just figured I would post this for future info, it's from the DNR's page.

Time Restrictions-- It is illegal to operate an ORV or a snowmobile between the hours of 7 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. on any area open to public hunting during the Nov. 15-30 firearm deer season.Exceptions:The time restrictions on the use of ORVs and snowmobiles do not apply during an emergency or while traveling to and from a permanent residence or hunting camp that is otherwise inaccessible by a conventional wheeled vehicle. The time restrictions on the use of ORVs also do not apply to those retrieving a legally taken deer, to private landowners and their invited guests, to motor vehicles licensed under the Michigan Vehicle Code operating on roads capable of sustaining automobile traffic,

Your Jeep is not an ORV, it is an OHV. It is perfectly legal to run the trails. Not recommended, but legal.

I already got my buck... wheel away! JK, I'd avoid it if possible just because I'd appreciate it if the tables were turned. If you do go, just stick to 2-tracks. Only morons are close enough to these roads when hunting to be affected by the traffic PASSING BY on them. Of course, it is Rose City/West Branch area we're talking about lol.

Yes they do have a lot of land to hunt. Many of them are offroaders as well, and members of groups like the nra.Why would you choose to piss off people who's numbers dwarf the off roading community? Would you like a large group like the NRA to get pissed off at offroaders and take steps to shut our shitty nonchallenging michigan trail system down totally?
Twenty years ago there where twice as many trails in yankee springs open to traffic as there are now.If we piss off the hunters what stops them from shutting the trails down all together and just making parking lots for people who want to use state land?

The mentallity of todays youth never ceases to amaze me.

Yankee springs doesn't have trails, it has seasonal roads open to any vehicle with a plate and ins. Fuck off with your old man comments, it was your gen drinking and fucking around out there that got it closed off in the first place. Seasonal roads are roads, use them whenever the fukc you want in a legal manner regardless of if it's insecure about your manhood season or not. Should we shut all the roads down, don't want to piss off the nra.
