Default 1979 Jeep CJ7

1979 CJ7

The Basics:
258 I6 – about 18,000 miles since the rebuild.
Along with the rebuild came:
New EMPI Electronic Choke Carb (http://www.quadratec.com/products/51318_100.htm)
New HEI Distributor
New Power Steering / Steering box
TH-400 3-Speed Auto Trans
Quadra-Trac 1339 Transfer case
Stock axles (Dana 30 up front and Dana 20 in the back)
1 ½” Body Lift
Custom roll-cage
Custom bumper work
Superlift suspension and shackle reversal
AM/FM Radio
Fog Lights
Hard Top w/ Metal Doors
BestTop Supertop Soft Top w/ Softdoors (like new, never installed)
New Fuel Sending Unit
31” Toyo AT Tires
Tub has been Herculined

The Gremlins:
- A little rust in usual jeep spots (behind front wheels, real quarter panels, windshield frame, etc) Around the gas filler cap is getting worse.
- Going from Reverse to Drive there is a clunk, which sounds like the QT transfer case chain may be worn (http://jubileejeeps.org/quadratrac/index.htm).
- Typical jeep engine/trans leaks.
- The Transfer Case is in “Emergency Mode” 4-Wheel drive (50/50 power to front and rear axles) and I'm not sure that it can be switched currently.
- Needs a new muffler.

The extras:
- I have two spare QuadraTrac Transfer cases that were working when pulled.
- I have an entire spare TH-400 transmission from a Wagoneer (one of the QT’s still mated).
- An entire Besttop Supertop soft-top, never used.

Bonus:
- A haynes and a Chilton Manual
- My entire collection of JP magazine (a few years worth).

Asking Price: $3500

The Story:
I bought this CJ7 about two years ago. The previous owners before him had done the restore, and what interested me was that the frame and body were in really good shape. The engine seemed to run well, but shook pretty bad at idle.

My plan was to turn it into a daily driver. I took it to The Jeep Outfitters in Flushing, MI (now 2 Track Minds Off-Road) and was planning on investing about $1000 into getting the engine tuned-up, new brakes, etc. Well, almost $5000 later I had a new engine block installed, power steering, new brakes, and some various leaks sealed up. I picked it up from them in December of 2006, and it has been my daily driver ever since.

The Jeep has a bunch of extras as you can see above. Between the hard top, the soft top, the hard doors, the extra set of tires, and the spare parts, I figure there is already over $2000 in “spare parts.” I’ve invested over $4000 under the hood after I bought it, and this doesn’t include what I paid for it in the first place. However, I know how the economy is doing and the CJ does have a few gremlins that need to get worked out.

So, my asking price is $3500. I’ll look at reasonable offers, especially coming from GL4x4, because I’d like to see it sold to a fellow Jeep-head.

Thanks,
GL

Figured out the vibration. I have new u-joints all around on front and back drive-shaft.

Still available at the same price.

DocRamcharger - I am looking for a Reduction Unit for my '76 CJ7 with T-400 and QT. Do you have one available, with or without the QT?

Thanks,
Dave in Fountain, MI

Okay, I am really needing a more family oriented vehicle...

I'd really like to sell this so, I am reducing price to $3500, and am willing to look at reasonable offers as well.

Thanks
