We purchased a VAC-ALL from southeastern Equipment in wixom a couple years ago, with the PD blower it is a workhorse and pretty easy to work on. Of course there is Jack Doheny in northville for Vactors ( we have 2 of those here also but they are 200 and 2002 fan units) we steered away from a vactor on our last purchase because we wanted a simpler machine without a bunch of electronics. We also looked at the Aquatech units that AIS Inc is selling and they were really nice. I would really suggest going to the pumper show in Indy around Feb or March and you get to see them all under one roof. We use great lakes service and supplies in petersburg, MI for alot of our nozzles and supplies.

We also looked at the Vac-On but did not like the kickstand for the hose reel.

Are you buying you own truck and having it up fitted or buying a complete unit?

Last one I worked on was a WS 4900 Cusco unit.

FYI, I don't sell equipment. But would recommend a Freightliner 114SD or WS 4900 w/DD13

Buying complete it will probably be a vac-all with the sterling chassis

Watch the Sterling chassis, I think they quit making them new. The freightliner looks like a good chassis, i think we may go that way with the next trucks we get. All i know for sure is the Teir 3 and 4 emissions are a pita for all the trucks. I am pretty sure CAT is coming out with a chassis pretty soon. Who is your salesman for vac-all? Is it Ken from southeastern equip?

Sterling is no more, so anything is either new old stock or used.

Tier 3 and 4 engines are for off-highway use only.

The CAT chassis is yet to be determined, but built by navistar with their engine, and right now i wouldn't buy anything from them.

We got our last sterling as old stock a couple years ago it is a 2009, we had to search to find a tier 3 truck, after that they said everything was tier 4. I thought tier 4 was the latest standard that had to be met. Is it a LEV standard or something now?

Tier 3 and 4 are off highway standards.

For on highway Medium and heavy duty diesels:

EPA '98 was the beginning of emmisions as we know it.
EPA'04 was the intro of EGR.
EPA '07 was the advent of DPFs.
EPA '10 was the intro of SCR.

FYI i would take a 2010 and newer truck with scr over any 2007-2009 truck.

Ours have the DPF and they have been problematic, we do alot of idling and stationary work, Have to look in to the SCR more.

The DPF is problematic in a vaccum truck because it spends all day running at an "elevated idle", there isn't enough load on the engine to keep the exhaust temps up high enough to prevent soot accumulation, or do a regen.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but avoid 2007+ CAT engines like the plague, likewise with 2010+ Navistar.
