As the holder of a doe permit this year, I say if it's brown, it's down.

I shot a doe with twins a long time ago. The fawns would not leave my area after. I know they were old enough to survive and I hadn't got anything that year or saw much. I felt bad in a way. At the same time they were no longer needing her as a food source or protection. However, I wouldn't do it again for any reason. With the population being so huge I feel it's better to wait for a loner. I also don't shoot many bucks. I pass as many as possible. Culling the doe heard will help produce larger bucks.

Small bucks (under 100") get a full time pass. Doe's are situation dependant.....i harvest two deer a year....so depending on what time of year it is and what is already in the freezer dictates whether i shoot.

I have no issue shooting them if fawns are present....they are old enough at this point to survive just fine.

I'm just as happy to take a doe. The deer population is WAY to big. Letting a doe go so that it can produce more bucks is ridiculous, and a cause of our overpopulation. Our deer population could be cut in half and not be a problem. IMO, Buck permits shouldn't even be issued until you have filled two doe tags for a few years. Bucks stick around and get bigger. Doe population shrinks. Life is good.

Whack the Doe and the fawn. Put them in the freezer. Repeat.

I would have taken both in that situation there is plenty of freezer room. Just the fawn I wouldn't touch it though. I would feel bad leaving it sit there watching it's mom die. Plus that veal is nice and tender.

I see your reasoning for taking her but I just don't feel right dropping a doe with a fawn in trail.

The rules need to be changed to one buck with four or more points on one side per season. The deer population is huge and will start putting a strain on the food and territory supply if it hasn't already. One buck can breed with many does. IMOH.
X2

I am all for shooting does but I am too much of a girlie man to take one that is with a fawn. I feel bad after every fish and animal that I kill but I get over it quickly.

There are times i get this way also. If i make a good shot and the animal dies quickly and without struggle i'm good. Over the years however i have had some kills that didn't go exactly as planned for one reason or another....those get to me a little....to know i didn't do my part well and caused unnecessary agony bothers me. I get over it quickly and practice and focus so that it does not continue to happen.

I believe what you are refering to is that does push away thier buck offspring, therefore if you do take that doe her youngin is more likely to stay around.

Personally I prefer to only shoot things that I have tags for, all others I need to process myself.
