Default 03 Avalanche Z71 - Transfer Case Position Sensor

2003 Chevy Avalanche, Z71

For the past 3 or 4 winters my 4 wheel drive starts acting up when it gets cold. The transfer case slips from 2WD to 4WD or even into neutral on its own. Usually I just put it back into 2WD and off I go. Today the truck shifted into 4WD Low on its own. I pulled over and tried to get it back into 2WD. The light says its in 2WD but it is actually in Nuetral. No warning lights or service 4 Wheel drive lights. Just put it in gear and it revs.

I searched around and it sounds like this is the transfer case position sensor gone bad. I'm looking for any suggestions/recommendations/diagnosis.

How hard is it to replace the position sensor? Could it be the servo motor itself?

Since I don't have any warning lights, I don't think I will even get a code.

If you can get it apart! We don't even try anymore,we just replace the whole motor.
