Default Apartments near Livonia

Hey Guys,

I just accepted a job in Livonia. I will be moving down from Traverse City before the 1st week of December. I'm originally from downstate, but haven't spent much time near metro Detroit. I will be getting a company vehicle with gas provided and will be working all over the area, so being right in Livonia isn't really that important but I figure I might as well be somewhat close to the office. So basically I'm just wondering if anyone has any apartment recommendations near Livionia? Thanks!

I would stay out of wayne county, I would stay in oakland county if you can afford it, try Novi or Northville. They are the north west boarders of Liviona too. Insurance is cheaper if you are out of wayne county too.

Depending on what price range you're looking at, I'd consider moving into plymouth. Super nice area, borders livonia, and it's generally safe and quiet. I just moved into a small complex hidden in a nice neighborhood a couple blocks from downtown Plymouth and pay less than $600 for rent. Now, the apartments are a little old, but they're not bad at all. I love living there, really quiet and I don't feel uncomfortable leaving my doors unlocked.

However, a good deal on an apartment in Plymouth can be hard to come by. I believe there is a room or two open at my complex, they usually go really quick but I could PM you the landlords phone number if you want, or more info.

Also: I would recommend you avoid Westland, Garden City, some areas of Livonia, and most apartments in Canton that go for less than $700/month. Canton can be nice, but expensive. Plymouth can be the same way, but good deals can be found.

Northville is in wayne county.

I grew up in Livonia and while its been 12 years since I moved to the sticks I still visit often. Personally I would chose something closer to the northwest corner. Novi, northville, Plymouth and farmington also have some really nice areas.

I have been checking out both Plymouth and Novi. What sucks is that I am still going to be paying rent in Traverse City until May when my girlfriend is done with school up here. So I am trying to stay as cheap as possible while still being safe. I also need a place that allows pets so that makes it even harder!

I'll take some info on your place tho ZJeep, as long as they allow pets that is.

Most of Livonia is safe.. I would avoid Redford. The cheapest apartments I know of are the Village in Wixom (at least they were back when I was in apartments in like 96-99). I did live in Westland after college and it wasn't horrible but please reference the dates I just gave you for that experience timeframe. I lived in Livonia until 2008 and it was never dangerous.

The villages in wixom are a hole now. An American citizen with a job would be a minority there these days.

Not all of Northville is Wayne county... I am on the west end and I am in Washtenaw county. Plymouth, Canton, Novi, and Northville all have very nice areas to them. I like downtown Plymouth... its small but still has a ton of stuff to see and do.

I haven't lived in Northville, and I'm from there(Oakland County north of base line) since 96 or 97? Because nothing is affordable. I just recently saw my aunt and uncles old house featured in the Detroit paper 475,000 dollars. Unbelievable to me, just a nice house in the city when they had it.

There are a lot of options in Plymouth and Farmington Hills that are nice and affordable. Northville actually has quite a few affordable apartment complexes on 7 Mile.

Do you have an office in Livonia, or something specific in that region? Or could you stay 20 minutes away from Livonia?

Other than that the property value has went up 10X.
Northville has certainly changed and it will continue to until there is no vacant or unused property left. Demand will eventually overrun supply.

Thanks guys! Basically I will only need to be at the office in Livonia a couple days a week. Most of the work will be in oakland and wayne counties with a little in Ann Arbor. So I have a ton of options, any of the areas near Livonia are pretty central to where I will be though so I figure it's a good place to at least start out. Then in a few months (hopefully I can find a 6 month lease) I can look something a little more permanent once I figure out the areas better.
